My 22 year old daughter is seriously bad news. She has decided to ACTIVELY destroy my life because after paying for her COMMUNITY COLLEGE, car, room and board, insurance-both medical and auto, clothing and nails, I declined to hand over $18000 for her to attend COSMETOLOGY SCHOOL. Her response was to partner with my ex with whom I am currently battling in court. Both of them are unemployed and want me to pay their way in the world. I was served with a restraining order in early May with stipulations that I would have to surrender my gun and take domestic violence classes. I have never abused this child and she has claimed for YEARS that my ex abused her while I was at work. .
She fits every single criteria for a sociopath according to the DSM IV. I am sure this sounds crazy to you, but I am finally able to see her for the extremely dangerous, MENTALLY ILL person she is. She played on my guilt and insecurities as a mother to manipulate me and prevent my current clarity of mind.
She was cutting herself at age 15, abusing my middle daughter physically, bit my dad when he protected my middle daughter from being strangled by her and stole from the prestigious private high school she attended for which she was expelled. Conversations on social media demonstrate her instability and utter disregard for the lives or reputation of others. She was involved with a criminal at age 18 and I was forced to send her away to PROTECT my younger children. When she resurfaced claiming this boy was hurting her, she was sent out of state for her own safety. As I only learned after SHE filed the restraining order against ME in early May of this year, she orchestrated a drive by shooting of my home while my younger children were present. Two shotgun blasts and nine 40 cal bullets ripped through my home that night. She has no remorse or empathy, cannot hold a job but its never her fault she gets fired, creates alternate persona for her lies, lies about everything from being beaten to my youngest daughter and her biological father being dead. She flies into violent rages and threatens self-harm, feels she is entitled to others belongings up to and including a friends expensive camera, my brothers jewelry and my deceased fathers money, assaults people verbally and physically, tortures animals for fun-she put my kitten in a box and sent him down the stairs repeatedly while laughing and dislocated the shoulder of a kitten she found. Vindictive revenge is her specialty if she feels wronged because she is never to blame. Refuses treatment because she is not the problem, everyone else is. She flits from relationship to relationship without thinking twice, she assaults her boyfriends/husband then plays poor me when they hit back. She usually has 3-4 boys going at the same time, playing them against each other. She has no friends, she ruins the friendship when they have nothing left she wants or can steal. No biological family left are willing to engage her. She laughs about almost killing my mother and any time the drive by shooting came up, it was about how upsetting that time was for her and I should comfort her because it was my fault she was beaten by the shooter. She has convinced my ex and his family to help her keep her 38 year old husbands 4 year old daughter away from the childs mother. In fact she married the older tattoo artist who only works for cash or prescription pain pills so that his ex-girlfriend could not serve her with a SECOND restraining order-the first one was last year and was later dropped. She has actively alienated my middle daughter from me with my ex's help. The two girls have said they want to kill me for money. The 22 year old said she wanted to bash my head in with a crystal vodka skull. She has NO remorse for any of this.
I am living in fear for my life, worried another shooting is coming at any time. I CHECK under my car for brake fluid before I drive anywhere. I have panic attacks if my youngest child does not answer her phone immediately. I worry that she will harm my husband or daughter to cause me pain.
Does this sound familiar to anyone? Does anyone have any help for me? I do not recognize this 22 year old as the baby I birthed, but as an evil entity wearing her skin. I have to protect my family from her but I do not know how. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Your daughter sounds like she has borderline personality disorder. Can you move away?

She does sound very dangerous. How was she able to get a restraining order? Were you able to get one against her? I'm not really sure what to suggest in this situation. I would try to get a restraining order against her, refuse any of her calls, don't respond to anything, and call the police any time she violates the order.

She was able to get the restraining order by lying to the court. We went today for the hearing and it was dismissed by the judge. She was not able to disguise her psychopathy while in court. She acted like she thought she was Perry Mason and spoke with condescending tones to the judge and my attorney. She was even condescending to her own witness. As expected, my ex-husband was there to show his support of her, despite hearing evidence about her accusing him of holding her down while his best friend raped her in 2009. She was holding the evidence of her accusations in her hands, agreeing that the names were hers, but denying having authored the accusations. She actually argued with me about the number of vehicles involved in the drive by shooting of my home. This was immediately after she asked what evidence I had of her involvement and I stated "for starters, she has intimate knowledge of the crime and provided the information to the police less than an hour after it happened." Thank God the judge was able to see through her charade. I have to say, it is frightening to be that close to someone so disturbed. There were people in the courtroom watching (I think waiting for their turn) who wished us luck and told us to be safe after witnessing her performance. A retired judge in the courtroom suggested I get counseling to learn how to recover from the victimization and to move forward without contact. He stated she is one of the most disturbed people he has ever seen and quite dangerous. The most dangerous part I believe is that she is very intelligent so her lies and manipulations are intricate and complicated. She testified she was a US Navy veteran, despite the fact that she dropped on request because she couldn't take orders or be a team member while in boot camp. She stole the fatigues, boots and dog tags from boot camp and still wears them for attention from time to time. I find myself ashamed to be her mother and wanting to apologize to the world for unleashing this creature into its midst. Anyone else feel like this?

She is definitely a psychopath. Both the psychopaths I dealt with lied about being in the military and being in war. One went so far as to acquire medals (probably replicas) and put them in a glass case to hang on his wall, surrounded by letters from the president. This is a very common psychopath lie. I think the judge was right, counseling is step 1. Did you attempt to get a restraining order against her. I think cutting all ties with her is the only way to go. And any time she violates the order, call the police.

How do I find a therapist/counselor familiar with the aftermath of a sociopath/psychopath attack? Are there specialists in this particular field? Its so hard to think of telling someone to their face that I not only gave birth to and raised my attacker, but that I did not see it before it was too late. I feel so stupid. There are things and people I will never get back in my life because I did not want to see her for what she was. I am heartbroken and scared. It is so overwhelming to me when I look at the trail of destruction left behind. I cannot even...

You can try to find a therapist who specializes in trauma, abuse, PTSD...those sort of things. Most abuse victims have been victimized by someone with a personality disorder. So someone who specializes in abuse will likely have encountered victims of psychopaths. I believe you are probably suffering from PTSD. And you have your other kids to worry about because this one is really dangerous. A therapist might be able to offer suggestions on how to deal with this situation.

Thank you for the suggestion, I will try calling my EAP to find someone in that specialty.
