Victims of Psychopaths Community Group
Is he or she a sociopath or psychopath? Think we're only talking about serial killers here? Psychopaths, sociopaths and even narcissists come in every walk of life, every career level, and every socio-economic category.
1) What happened to us, such as how we were manipulated, why we chose to ignore the red flags, which vulnerabilities in us our psychopath exploited, etc.
2) The mind of a psychopath, in the measure that it's possible for a normal human being. This understanding makes us eventually see a psychopath not as horrible, evil human being, but as a member of a subspecies of human beings, as Prof. Robert Hare would say. We then begin to realize that it's simply pointless to expect them to have acted, thought and felt like normal human beings while we were in a relationship with them.
My therapist agreed with that approach and thought that it had helped me a great deal to recover from much of the abuse I suffered. I don't know if this is advice I can give you too, but it is based on my own experience. I can't say that I'm able to move on with my life yet, but if I hand't made an effort to understand the above I would still be dwelling on much of what happened to me while being in a relationship with a psychopath.
Don't beat your self over it; I think that many of us (if not most) fell for either their looks or their sexuality -- or both (as in my case). It's part of their "arsenal".
what a deadly combo
