One Year of NC

Today I am celebrating one year of No Contact with the Psychopath (P) who deceived and manipulated me with a false identity that she had carefully crafted. She contacted me exactly a year ago on the eve of the her 50th birthday. She had told me she was 31. I was ready for the contact and responded by exposing lie after lie after lie that I had discovered through an Internet background search I should have done much earlier. After a while, she gave up the conversation and disengaged. I haven't heard from her since. My life is much better as a result.

Looking back on my own experience with my manipulative father, I'm convinced now that this is the only way to deal with a psychopath...total disengagement.

Congratulations on your first year of freedom. I was free for a short time while I was studying for degrees, then living on my own, but I fell back into the trap later in life and now I deeply regret that. It all seemed so right at the time, but it wasn't right at all.

You're either free or you're not. There's no "in between" or "accommodation".

Excellent posts. Richie is so right - there is no in between. And, each time you go back to someone who has already done a lot of damage, it is much worse. NC is the only choice and it works wonders. Thank you for sharing.

Awesome news Avram. I remember you but I don't remember your exact situation. Just glad you have been able to break away, glad you were able to confront her with the truth when she tried to reconnect (how long had it been before she reconnected with you?).

I think with anyone destructive and dysfunctional, the only way to stay away is pure NC. Otherwise they end up sucking you back in. It happened several times with the last guy I dated, even though he wasn't a psychopath. He had other PDs and was a very unstable/toxic person nonetheless.

She was an Internet "catfish" and a definite psychopath. The lies finally got too outrageous even for me to believe in my weakened state (from the love bombing). I broke things off with her and completely blocked her from phone and Internet contact until she found a way to break through. It was about 2 1/2 months after I broke things off with her. But it was her 50th birthday, so I was kind of expecting it.
