Victims of Psychopaths Community Group
Is he or she a sociopath or psychopath? Think we're only talking about serial killers here? Psychopaths, sociopaths and even narcissists come in every walk of life, every career level, and every socio-economic category.
I know your pain and have felt it. I have felt like a zombie before from something just like this. The person engulfed me, made me dependent on them, I gave up all my friends for them, and then they dumped me.
I thought I was going to die. I had trusted them out of desperation and hope plus the physical attraction I had for them. It was a living hell.
I tried to learn after that what never to do again so I would never have to be in that hell again. The conclusion I came to was, never let someone cause you to hermit off again from others. And always keep other men friends in your life and SPEND TIME WITH THEM even while in a romantic relationship with another person. Doesn't mean you have to sleep with the friends or cheat on your partner - just have MEN FRIENDS to go out with. That way if things ever DO go bad, you have people you can turn to. Another thing I am learning is "to thine own self be true". I hope to God I never go through that again, it was sheer hell.
We should always take precautions to have additional friends in our lives so the predators can't just get us alone and think they can bully and abuse us.
Slowly, one moment at a time, do something for YOU - even if it's just brushing your teeth through the tears or polishing your toenails or whatever needs doing. Do it one freaking second at a time - FOR YOURSELF.
I know how hard it hurts when you're in the stage you're in now, but what you're going through in this hell will be a life experience you can draw from forever and it will teach you the importance of always putting YOURSELF FIRST with regard to these people. It's good to be good to people - but we cannot give ourselves away to them. "To thine own self be true."
Fiskebollbukta, beautifully stated - how nice to be normal or at least not predators, and discovering the truth. We need to be grateful we learned what they are NOW. Educate ourselves as much as we can about their condition, and don't stay victims. Even if we're still "in" the relationship or living in the same house, the more we learn, the easier it will be to protect ourselves from them and do what needs to be done when the time is right to get away. People should love us, honor us, protect us - not abuse us!
I wish there was a designated city that just had non-psychopath men living in it. Would make things a lot easier, wouldn't it?
