My former best friend who i'd known since the age of 5 is a Narcissist. I ended the friendship about 5 years ago due to her narcissism getting to a point i could not bare to witness any longer. For knowing someone over 20 years i should of felt a loss when i cut her loose, but sadly NO, she was a crap friend, had always been a crap friend from the age of 5. I have to say when i ended the friendship my only knowledge on Narcissist was that i heard hitler was one. I always thought that my former friend would out grow her nasty ways as she grew older. She never did and never will and i accepted that fact. What is it you want to know about the teen years?

I just want to share a story about something she did when we were about 6 years old at school.

My former friends grand mother had passed away a week before this incident occured and for a whole week after her grand mothers funeral. We were all told that we were to be extra nice to my former friend because she was grieving the loss of her grand mother. When my friend came back to school she had the whole school walking on egg shells. Even the teachers weren't immune. If she was asked to do something she didnt want to do, like get out of the school pool with the rest of the kids, she would break down and start crying and say they made her sad and that swimming was helping her to not miss her grand mother so much. Of course the teachers gave in and let her stay in the pool longer than everyone else. She did alot of things like this during that very long week. Nothing short of emotional black mail. Another thing she did that really sticks in my mind is another little girl in our class had a brought a Ronald Mcdonald colouring book to school from home. My friend wanted this book and told the other girl if she didn't give it to her to keep she was going to tell the teachers and all the other kids that she had made fun of her grand mother dying. The little girl gave her the colouring book.

Not always Eyes...I've noticed when they know you are hooked or are dependant on them for something they will often do shitty things to let you down or to make you feel insecure and unsure about yourself and your standing with them, i suspect is a control thing and a superiority thing. The friend i mention above loved to show up late or cancel plans at the last minute without any good reason. Only time she really kept to things she said she'd do is when it was in some way it was beneficial to herself. She just doesn't care how her actions affect others. Watching her play her last partner's emotion's like a violin was what made me end our friendship. She did things to him cause she could.

That is utterly despicable, November. And I roll my eyes , too, EyesOpen.

To answer your question, November, I was just wondering how common it is to encounter these people in their manipulative prime while in their teens.

I dont know the answer to that Aspin. I dont know if there is statistic's on that or what ? but if i think back to when my friend was in her teens, i would diffinately say she was one of a kind. I went through three schools with this girl and can only recall meeting one other girl who had extreme similarities to my friend.

Also i wouldn't say her prime was in her teens. She was diffinately more in her prime in her early twenties because she no longer was living with her parents and had more freedom and less authority prohibiting the limits of what she could do and could get away with.
