its not always like that tho. depending on how good of an actor the s is. some psychopaths are much better than others at mimicking emotions, that their smiles seem normal most of the time. also flat effect can be dozens of reasons why not just because of someone being crazy mentally challenged or psychopathic.

theres tons of other things that cause others to not express emotions very well or appropriately such as someone whos depressed, torture or abuse victims, prisoners of war, people who have social disorders such as social anxiety,selective mutism,severe shy people, wild child syndrome, cultural differences, people with neurological problems or other anxiety related things, phobias, ptsd, etc , the emotions might be there but they cannot or dont feel like expressing the feelings in their mind or spirit

but people usually jump to conclusion that the person is insane or emotionelly disabled when it might not be the thing. but yes it could be due to psychopath
