This is the first one I've heard of but I'd bet it's not uncommon. Because they don't ever develop an emotional connection to anyone, what's the difference if their victim is male or female? I knew a psychopath for over a year, never anything romantic between us, he was 50 yrs old and had never been in a relationship but was OBSESSED with his mother. He lived off of her financially and lived w/ her. He had a million excuses for why he had never been in a relationship. And one of the things he kept telling me was that he wanted a rich woman or man, that he wasn't even picky. Of course not, because he just wants someone who will financially support him the way his mother did. That's all the relationship will be to him so the gender of the person doesn't matter.

Yes, I agree, many of them may not care what the gender is of their victim. I am also 21 years older then he and he had a bad childhood, which I imagine made it easier for him to pretend. and he also enjoyed the mothering qualities that he missed out on as a kid. I took very good care of him... and boy do I regret it now. thanks

He probably lied about or exaggerated his "bad childhood" to make you feel sorry for him and get pity points. That was what mine did.

Mine too Bunny. I wouldn't be surprised if he is lying/exaggerating to gain sympathy from you. They want to be mothered because that way they get everything done and paid for for them. For some reason they think they are entitled to it. Again, if he cared for and respected you he would have wanted to offer you something concrete too. As I've said in other posts, mine wasn't gay that I knew of but many of my gay friends thought he was -he may have been able to switch it on. I don't think they're picky -it's just any victim. Remember, they aren't motivated by the same thoughts/morals so we can't apply ours to them. Try not to view it too personally.

I agree. People to sociopaths are just objects, tools and resources they can use to survive. Man, woman, young, old...I don't think it really matters to them because they don't view other human beings as we do. My S was 10 years younger than I was. And he also play the same pity card to gain my sympathy....."no one in my family loves me....they hate me....my father is horrible....blah, blah, blah..."
They keep burning bridges because of how they live, and many people (mostly friends) will want nothing to do with them and eventually leave them. They cannot be too picky when it comes to who they associate themselves with because of this reason.
Please don't beat yourself up over it! His current boyfriend is just another prey.
