Desperate for help and guidance

I've been dating a sociopath on and off the past 1 1/2. He's had me charge things on credit cards with the promise to pay me back. He has 2 cars under my name. One is paid in full and the other is financed. I've tried to buy him out of one car and then he agreed to pay me back. Again, he hasn't. I've gotten a second job to pay those debts/loans. He is now threatening me about my job. I don't know what he is capable of. I just want him to pay me back and pay the car bills. The car bills is the only thing he has been paying. He's very belittling and lies about almost everything (too many to list). I feel trapped.

So sorry first of all for this experience you are going through.
Perhaps it will be good to get a legal consultation and see what you can do to overcome the fear and danger of what he can do.
When you speak to him he seems to control the situation an manipulate your emotions.

Get a restraining order before he gets any worse, and move far.

Yes he controls the situation with manipulation. I was thinking about speaking to lawyer. I'm embarrassed that I'm in this situation.
I can't get a restraining in NJ just because of this situation.

I don't think that we here can tell you what is the right step against him. We know what you shared. But the most important thing is to cut all dialogue with him, because as you have already felt you are being abused.
Try solving this without talking to him.Talking to him will make it worse. Perhaps talking to a therapist who is qualified to treat people who have experienced abuse, can also do good.

The best you can do is cut your losses and run as fast and as far as you can and never speak to that subhuman again.Sorry to be so callous.But after 57 years of abuse by my siblings I KNOW without a doubt that is the best thing you can do.He'll ruin you if you try to make him pay.It's sport to them.They find it fun to pull one over on you.It's just a game to them.You are just a playing piece to him.Such as a pawn on a chess board.
