Its the nature of the beast. What with it taking several years to d iagnose I wonder how many of us there are? Let's get together and compare experiences
I was diaagnosed with Parkinson;s o/a July of 2000. I retired from the Army in 1998. It is possible and probable that I had PD the last few years I was in. I never pushed the issue much, but it's food for thought. Any similiar stories out there?
Have you applied to the VA for benefits? I applied in Jan 2011, but no response yet. I left the Army in 1994. During my assignment in Vietnam in 1969, I was exposed to Agent Orange. I was diagnosed with PD in July 2010. I am in stage I and doing well. I take Sinemet and Azilect. Supplement with 800 mg of CoQ10. 1 hr+ of exercise daily followed by BIG and LOUD (LSVT) pd exercises.. Diet with lots of frujt and veggies.
Finally received a reply from VA. After waiting 6months, they gave me 30 days to make my case about my condition. I quickly laid out the facts and am asking my doctors to complete a quetionnaire.
Hi fellow veterans, on active duty (36 years) and diagnosed today with PD. Was planning on retiring next Oct 12. Have been in numerous wars, countless deployments.and racked up over 8000 flight hours. I wonder if the cocktail of vacines I have been required to take had anything to do with it. By the way, my brother was on active duty when he developed PD. Genetics...maybe? Anyway today was a spooky day for me. I have to research the VA disability issue, any suggestions would be appreciated.
Thanks,

I was diagnosed with PD in 1992 when I was 25 and got out of the military in 1995. Ed PD is part genetics part enviroment I have a family history on my Dad's side and I was an aviation structural mech in the Navy. The genetics is the bullet in the gun and the enviroment (vaccines, chemicals and so on) are the trigger. Getting diagnosed can be spooky. I have as I mentioned been dealing with PD for 19 years without meds until my symptoms started getting worse. I was getting alot of exercise and just kept moving. I have to go into my local VA clinic this Monday to see what meds can be suggested. PD isn't the same for everyone in my case right now my tremors are only in my left arm and hand, I am also getting stiff muscles all over it just depends on what my body decides it want to do I've been getting stiff neck muscles and sore joints this week. One of the common things is sever fatigue and having a hard time getting to sleep. In my case if I'm having a bad night I might be able to sleep for 4 hours on a good night I consider myself lucky if I'm able to get 6 or 7 hours of sleep. The reason for the fatigue is your body is working overtime just to do the simplest of things.

I was a dependent in japan during Vietnam, then served 1980 to 1995 was diagnosed in 2014 with pd. first sign of it was in 2005. VA doctors gave me the run around for years. They kept saying it was not PD because no one in my family has it, and they don't believe it was from agent orange because it took so long. They kept telling me it was all in my head because all the tests kept coming back negative. I finally gave up with the VA and went to to an outside of VA doctor. Before I evan sat down he looked at me and said you have Parkinson's. Been fighting VA disability for 16 years now. every appeal take about 5 years and they bump me up a few %. I am 100% disabled through SSI, but with $0 payment because I receive VA benefits. I am 100% disabled through the police department but only receive 10% of my pay. went from living on $5500 a month to $1800 a month. still waiting on VA disability on my last appeal in 2012
