My partner has been on and off with the MHT for quite a few years, beginning of last year she was discharged from them after being diagnosed with Rapid Cycling Mood Disorder.
In September last year things went pair shaped to put it mildly, she hit a really rough depression phase with the odd manic in between, she became suicidal etc and because she was not under the MHT I had to fight and fight to get her the help and support she needed. It took a lot, to get that help, eventually we did.
11 months on and we have been semi-stable for a while now, still get the manic at times and still the odd dip. She has other health problems including arthritis to cope with as well. She is on 2 mood stabilisers pregabalin and depakote as well as duloxetine as an anti-depressant and risperidone for anxiety.
Last time she saw her mental health social worker he was talking about speaking to her psych about down dosing some of the medication. However this week when she saw him he has told her that she is being discharged from the MHT.
I'm scared now, her bipolar is not fully under control, probably never will, there is always the chance she will hit a manic or depressive episode and I'm scared that if things go pear shaped like last September we will be back where we started, me having to fight and fight and fight to get the help, with no back up yet again.
Why don't they ever ask those who care for the person, or the person themselves what they think about it.
I have depression myself and this has knocked me, even before this I knew I wouldn't be able to cope with it again.
Is there anyone on here with Bipolar who has faced the same situation, or does anyone know if there is anything I can do to prevent them discharging. OK at present she doesn't need to see anyone regularly, but even if it's just every 6 months, knowing the support is there when it goes pear shaped will take the pressure off both of us.
