I am new, I wanted to post to introduce myself. I don't do these online group things but I think I need one at this point. I am severly struggling with worsening symptoms. I was diagnosed with multiple TBI's in 2015 which were caused by trauma starting in utero.
I'm 22, I've had to be the adult my whole life, been given every medication made, hate them. I am failing at everything and trying to use tools but I'm going it alone.
Asking others without TBI is useless I've found. Please tell me how you find your strength, your hope... motivation anything. I am so depressed, I just want to lay down and give up and have people do it all for me. But I'm an over acheiver... so of course I can't get myself to give up.
I'm exhausted. Confused. Depressed. And everyone that loves me doesnt get it regardless of how many articles I give them to read. My bosses are frustrated with me and I'm scared for my job so I'm moving towards filing for accomidations and making my TBI's known.
I see a therapist. I see a psych. I go to church. I love God. I minister to others in need. However, I feel so alone with this TBI stuff.
Anyone who wants to help, I'd be blessed if you did. I'm fearful for myself now and later.
I'm not in danger so please don't start throwing out the suicidal question.
A little much for my first post, I just want to be honest because I truly am at a loss of what to do anymore.
I'm really glad to read your post, and I want you to know that what you're feeling is quite natural given the trauma that you describe; in a life that is just beginning really. I know that you are feeling lost, and i assure you this too will pass!
I just joined this group today, and as I am about two and a half years into my recovery from my third serious auto crash, the first of which was when I was 17 years old; not to mention all manner of trips n falls and head bumps over the years! lol
I have my ups and downs, and currently I've been feeling some down, so I looked for online support groups--which I haven't really done before. I wrote a lengthy post on one site, and although it was therapeutic for me, nobody responded??
I also noticed that there are a lot of people asking questions; seeking information as well as support.
Anyway, I just want you to know that I didn't want you to NOT receive any response to your post, and that I will be very happy to share with you what I have learned on my journey, by way of these posts, if you're interested?
Perhaps I can be inspired by being part of these support groups, and hopefully I can inspire others too?
Thank you Tianni for being that response! :) I know what you mean be the reaching out but no one takes the bait and gives a response. The writing is therapeutic but when you return to no answers, well its kinda crappy. Especially when it's something that you need!
I think this site will be a great support for us, it seems like there's a lot of members and people who really need help and want to help at the same time. We're all here to get through it together.
Thank you for the encouragement, on the "lost" feeling... it's so weird realizing that my life is changed forever and finally knowing I have to face the monster and stop running because otherwise I will sink!
Thank you for sharing your story, it stinks when the injuries occur so young... the brain is still underdeveloped and then it gets "stuck" and doesn't grow like it should and then all the other injuries on top of that just taking things away and making things harder. It sounds impossible to me at time, feels impossible all the time but I know we will all get through it. We just need that support, encouragement, help and compassion on those really hard days. The ups and the downs are so hard, I hear you.
I hope to stay in touch! So happy to make a new friend on here already :)
Hey, alot of those struggles sound like symptoms of my early years of recovery. In a strange way I look back on them fondly because it was the strongest that i had been in all of my life. Another plus i got out of my accident besides being an emotional nutcase lol are the remains to prove it.
My injury occurred when i was 19. I was involved in a bike (me) on car (them) collison and the first two years of recovery took alot out of me.
I was so religious in the beginning and so many others were supporting me, but as the years have gone by, that has changed. My group of friends has become smaller and smaller.
Though my symptoms were not that bad for a while they have begun to build up recently. With my tbi friends being in other states I have had to turn to those here at home, yet when i describe what is going on none of them want to approach me about it. They continue to hope that sooner or later ILL bring it up.
I have been in therapy for the past 7 years. With me now at 26 im trying to live the life that I was meant to live and not suffer anymore. Many people believe a tbi to be something to wine about but, it is more proof that whatever may come our way, we can handle it.
I may seem positive but there is definately a dark depressing cloud somewhere behind this smile. Before this i was part of tbi chat site and it was very helpful and i hope this is the same. Either way, if you ever need someone to vent with ill be here to listen
