There's a book titled "Toxic Parents". At age 58 I'm still dealing with a toxic dad who killed himself in 1982?, and a toxic mom who i had to take off life support, and guilt re it.

Hi Im new here,, I would love to talk to and make friends with other adults who are still in the process of closing the still very raw chapters of their childhood, To be able to discuss my early years and the relationship I had with my mother with people who can totally relate to me and my feelings.

Hi Leah, thank you for your message. Along with my brother, I am in the final stages of closing for good, a very abusive relationship with my mother, and have done so with my father as well. It has been a very painful process that allows me to heal through the support of some very caring friends, counsellors and mentors. I've had to overcome tremendous self-doubt, a near-paralysing fear of people, to realise the roots of my traumas have come from the abuse I received that I never thought was abuse until I started getting major help a few years ago. I have come to realise that I've been deeply infantilised by my parents and made to feel guilty, beholden and worthless compared to the safety and survival of my mother especially. At times I have wanted to completely end things in a fit of rage, but that wouldn't have healed me at all. My mentors and counsellors have helped and continue to help me handle these relationships with compassion and strength, so that I can have my own boundaries but I'm not seeking vengeance... hmmm... a lot easier said than done and an internal battle I still work through every day. Toxic Parents, the book itself, is a book I am re-reading as I go through an entirely new phase in my healing. I have been working through this process for the last 10 years. Without community, without mentors who were utterly dedicated to my healing, I would not be in the position I am in today. Hi...a late reply; I've been off this site sooo long cause computer troubles on top of using the shared computer in my building.

The good thing about living where I am, a grandfather telling me how his own kid doing NOTHING for his grandkid.

Grandfather took the grandkid to doctor, cause the dad doesn't care; 10 year old grandkid with sky high bad cholesteral, cause the grandfather himself took the grandkid, every day, to Burgar King a block away.

LIke I said to friend in building: "And I thought my parents were nuts."

So, maybe you want to share, with somebody on this site having similar horror stories to share.
