I understand the feeling, i would be happy to talk...i do have aspergers syndrom as well, so pretty much im a total fruit loop with some extreme tics :) I do swear, but try not to for those that dont..im 32 and in nebraska..not sure what to say really, im having one heck of a tic day and im not impressed....so, how you feeling for the moment?

Hello everyone..I have had verbal tic disorders as far back as I can remember but they were not that bad..as I grew older they got much worse...As a child I can remember seeing a man walking down the street talking/yelling nonsense...it has always been my fear that one day that would be me...I am 53yrs old now and I often swear or say stupid things..mostly when I am doing the dishes, driving, mowing the grass, vacuuming, you know things that are kind of autonomous...I have always had a hard time holding down a job because I get paranoid when I think people heard me talking out...I have been in trouble with the law..and sometimes I honk my horn and make hand gestures when I drive as well as using cuss words...I have had people get a little upset with me...I am a fairly large man over 250 and 6ft...often not meaning to I scare people...Frankly I would like to vanish off the face of the earth...I don't want anyone to see me or hear me..I am tired of making excuses for myself...I can no longer find work..and I don't want to find work...I panic so bad every time I leave the house I can hardly breath...I know there must be others that feel the way I do..I don't know how I have hung in there this long...I don't know what to do with myself..I can no longer earn a living and I don't' qualify for disability or at least I don't think I do...Be thankful if you have found away to survive with tic disorders...

DazedOnlooker, you might qualify for Social Security Disability. I qualified because of my severe Tourette syndrme and not being able to work. Call your local office and explain your situation. They can direct you further.

I'm 23, and I've been diagnosed since I was 15. My tics are only triggered by sounds that I hear, such as chewing food, swallowing, sniffing, and so on. I had to leave college just before my senior year because the tics got so bad. I can't hold a job, so I'm stuck at home with my mother. It's maddening. I just sit there all day and do nothing. This is difficult as a very active person. I'm trying to get Deep Brain Stimulation surgery, but I can't afford it because I have no income. One more year until I qualify for Medicare, which should cover the surgery.

Thankfully, my family is pretty supportive. I have a little brother who is 12 and means the world to me, and that helps keep me going. I'm still cautiously hopeful that I will somehow be able to get the surgery before Medicare kicks in.

Oh, yeah. I have Asperger syndrome, too, Teleana. And OCD and ADHD. I like to think of it all as a potpourri of disorders. When put together, the effect can be overpowering!
