What a tough situation to be in. Hoping all goes well. I had my rib resection surgery early April of this year. I was very lucky to have had an amazing surgeon and am slowly coming out on the other side. What questions did you have about his particular surgery?

May I ask how long you had to stay in hospital? How has the recovery? Did you Have a scalenectomy as well?

No problem at all!! I was in the hospital for 3 nights 4 days! My surgeon removed my rib via the underarm. The recovery is still happening now (6 months later) however I began to feel a little more “normal” about 2 months after. No I did not have a scalenctomy!! But!!! My neck near my scalene (after surgery) flares up a big percentage of the time and I’m in constant pain. I will be contacting my surgeon over this! I teach dance for a living. The doctors said that it is common in athletes who do repeated motion for so many years!!! I was diagnosed literally a year ago today. Let me know what else I can help with!!!

I am in constant pain everyday. I already had a scalenctomy, which the surgeon I’m with now has noticed that there are parts of it still left. I’ve done scalene surgery, Botox, release of my pectoral muscle and now final stage is rib resection.
I’m am praying this works!
I worked in pain for 3 years and have been out of work for a year and a 1/2.
My artery is starting to narrow because of all the compression-did this happen to you?
My surgeon is going in above my clavicle instead of underarm. My resent surgery was under my armpit, my 1st surgery was near my clavicle.
May I ask where you felt pain before surgery?
Mine is constant burning in my shoulder blade up my neck into the right side of my face.
I’m now noticing I get dizzy more then usual. Did you have that?

Sorry for late response. Irconlically, before surgery I felt very little discomfort. I felt discomfort about 4 months before I was diagnosed for only 3 weeks then it was gone!!! I knew something was wrong when my arm started swelling up! Yes, my veins were affected and closing up, doctors added a stint in my veins to open up the passage way prior to my surgery, which is now there forever, After surgery, I get shooting pain up through my shoulder up into my neck!! I also feel discomfort sometimes pain near the incision site! I did not have a scalenectomy, just my first rib resceted.
