This is a private group by invitation only. It is a group for those who have a loved one with a brain injury. This group was not founded by me but I will serve as the founder temporarily as one of the first members.
Along the same lines as MuffinDog's "Thanksgiving weekend" story, I thought you might find this conversation with my son both funny and familiar.
I woke my son up this morning at 5:35 for his AA meeting. Now, keep in mind that his cognitive functions are pretty bad upon waking. . . and I am NOT a morning person. Anyway, I noticed that his golf clubs were sitting in the middle of the kitchen floor.
Mom: Son, why are your golf clubs in the middle of the kitchen floor?
Son: Well where else would I put them?
Mom: How about where they were before you put them in the middle of the kitchen floor?
Son: What?!
Mom: Where did you have them before you put them in the middle of the kitchen floor?
Son: Mom, you are losing it. What are you even talking about?
Mom: Are you going golfing today or something?
Son: Well obviously. I just said that!
Mom: Um, no you didn't. When I asked you why your golf clubs were in the kitchen you didn't tell me you were going golfing.
Son: That's because you didn't ask me.
Mom: Well when I asked you why your golf clubs were in the kitchen, that's what I meant -- were they there because you were going golfing.
Son: Mom, you are making no sense! Seriously, what is wrong with you, Mom?
Mom: Sorry, Son. Have fun golfing today. . .
It was a bit like "Who's on first?" Had I been more awake myself, it wouldn't have taken me so ridiculously long to figure out my question was nowhere direct enough to get the answer I was looking for. What I wanted to know was if his clubs were out because he had decided to sell them out of the blue (bad thing), or if they were out because he was going golfing (hugely good thing).
MY SON IS GOING GOLFING TODAY! YIPPEE! HOORAY! He made the high school varsity golf team in 7th grade, and he has not shown much interest in golfing at all since the accident. I am sooooooo happy!

Loved the story and glad your son is taking an interest!
I wanted to update you on how things went. Now you have to understand that getting my son to respond to a text message with anything more than a "k," "Ya," or "No" is a major accomplishment. For example, if I asked, "Did you go out to dinner last night?" his response would be "Ya." I would then have to ask, specifically, who did you go with, where did you go, etc. He would never just volunteer information. Therefore, I thought I would have to pull teeth, as usual, to get any info on the golf outing.
Sooooooo, here's our text convo:
Me: Did you golf?
Son: Ya i shot 54 on nine holes. Terrible.
Me: Guess you're outta practice lol. Did you have fun though?
Son: Ya.
Me: Good! ttyl XOXO
Really, HOW COOL WAS THAT FIRST RESPONSE?! He told me how many holes he played, the score he received, and that he thought he golfed terribly. Wowza - it totally blew me away!
Be still this mother's heart. With just the tiniest trickle here and there, I am seeing progress even after 4 1/2 years. This is living proof that the brain continues to heal or make new pathways or whatever you want to call it!
My wish for you all is that you, too, notice the trickles when they happen, because I am confident that they *will* happen.
