Hello all ! I am here ! Thanks for the invite . I am a mother of 2 boys or young men I should say. Youngest son who is 24 now had a TBI 10/31/08. Life has taken a major change....and not for the best either.
But we are coping as best we can. Since injury we have dealt with drug addiction, a couple of arrest and all the personality changes that happen after a frontal lobe injury. We have been getting quite the education. Trying to maneuver thru the medical hell and social security disability hell is frustrating as all get out.. The amount of paperwork is crazy. Then trying to keep me and my husbands stuff taken care of and then adding my sons life in the mix. I swear some days at work I feel like I am managing all our lives and not getting any work done. Lucky for me I have been at my job so long that I dont have to think to do the job. Speaking of which I should get back at it.

Welcome grngupy1...I'm new to the Tea Room as well. My husband was in a serious car accident 4 1/2 yrs ago and has a BI. We have 3 young kids & yes...managing everyone elses life is what we end up doing after a family member gets a BI...coping is not easy. My husband's injury is frontal lobe as well, but they think it could have been axonal as well. My husband is unable to work & had to go onto Pension Disability. I'm a stay at home mom & thought I would have to go back to work, but we tried for Social Security Disability as well. I had our 3rd child 2 months after his accident, so he could not care for himself or the kids. We made do & fought hard for SSD. Since he was so young it was not easy to get...he was denied at first. We took it to the Administrative Judge, got a good SSD lawyer & was awarded SSD. It was a good 2 yrs after his accident when we got it. It is very stressful & the process is a lot to go thru, but worth it in the end!! If you have any questions about the SSD...I might be able to help you...it was awhile ago we went thru the process but I'm sure I'd remember some things. :-) I remember the paperwork to apply for SSD...my husband could not do it so I did it! Best of luck & keep pushing for it! If needed find a good SSD lawyer to help you out...it will pay off!!
