The Tea Room Community Group
This is a private group by invitation only. It is a group for those who have a loved one with a brain injury. This group was not founded by me but I will serve as the founder temporarily as one of the first members.

My son has seen two psychiatrists (one stopped treating him because my son couldn't stop drinking and I had no idea how common that was with young male tbi patients), two neuropsycologists (one just for neuropsych testing), a psychologist and a regular therapist (great therapist but no clue about how tbi effects, so lots of bad advice). The biggest help has been the psychologist, who while not specializing in tbi knows a great deal about them. Insurance has covered most everything except for the wonderful psychiatrist because he doesn't take any insurance. However, I talked to him and he is giving us a reduced rate of $85 an hour for CBT. Our experience has been that tbi knowledge is crucial, but equally important is that intangible doctor/patient connection. We've never had to pay $2000 for an assessment/appointment. It seems pretty expensive to me, do you know what it is going to encompass?
Please keep us posted on the SSDI process. I hope it goes more smoothly with a good attorney.
My husband also saw a neuropsychologist and had Cognitive therapy, but they were separate therapists. The 2000 sounds really steep to me too...what is that cost for?
Good luck and continue to fight for the SSDI...it is not an easy or quick process at all!
