DS has made more "improvements," and replying to a message isn't possible today. That's why I'm posting as a new topic. You have my sympathy. I had two cats, brother and sister. The brother, Simon died a year ago at 17. Andi's still with us. Unlike many other pets, when a cat chooses to spend time with us, it's pure friendship. Such a heart connection is hard to part with. You have my sympathy.
Unlike dogs, cats don't really need people. They can take care of themselves for the most part, and even in the case of those who have become dependent on their humans, I doubt if they realize their dependence, therefore, they are with us (unless trapped in the house and hiding in the corner), because they want to be. I've seen plenty of situations where the cat and human co-exist in the home, but the cat only tolerates the human, except to become ingratiating at meal time.
