First of all I want to say thank you for all the support and love that I have received from all of you. I can't begin to tell you how much it's meant to me.
The hearing went surprisingly well. They were so very understanding and sympathetic towards David's situation. They seem to understand that he was not doing this out of malice rebelliousness or just to make money but instead was doing it to keep a friend. The principle even mentioned during the hearing that David was having problems with friendships or lack of, and that it seemed to be weighing heavily in him.
I was allowed an opportunity to voice my opinion, and I told them that David's problems with friendship had come out in counseling as well as the day that he got in trouble for this.
All in all I think because of David's polite manner and his straight "A" report card helped them make their decision today.
They gave him 180 days in alternative school. This is what I was hoping for.
They were all so very kind to David telling him how smart he was, too smart for this kind of activity and that they believed in him, and that he could do better for himself.
They all talk to him about the dangers of synthetic marijuana and what it could do to kids that are on certain medications
They warned him what would happen if he got in trouble again.
They explained to him, as I had done, that his friend used him and that he would not be getting any trouble at all.
I think David understands now that he was being used By his friend, he seemed pretty upset when we left.
Anyway, the hearing went really well. Alternative school was the best thing that could've happened, I am pleased with the outcome.
Now of course I have to wait a whole month, until April 3, before we go to court find out the results there. But the officer at the hearing said that if everything went well in the next month that it was a good possibility that David would just get more community service and longer probation.

I'm so glad that they were able to see into the heart of the matter.
Now, go take care of yourself! Often after times of high stress, the swing can bring with it a flare, so drink lots of water, eat something, and take it easy today.

One suggestion.......If there is a Big Brother/Big Sister group near you get in touch with them.
This is an awesome organization and each person goes through background checks and are thoroughly screened. David would have a friend to confide in who would steer him in a good way.

It sounds like the board was made up of very compassionate people with a true grasp of what teens go through. I'm so glad it was the outcome you had hoped for. David will learn from this and it will make him stronger.
Hippy has a great idea to get in touch with the Big Brother program. We have that around here and I've heard wonderful things about it. Since your Husband is seldom home and when he is, he fights with David like he was the same age, I think this resource would prove invaluable. I really hope you look into it.
It's important for kids around that age and even younger to have an adult in their life who likes and accepts them for who they are. Not relative who have the obligation!
