I can't get it off of my mind since I turned 50 and it keeps popping up. I've never been tattooed and I want to get a tattoo, but I can't decide on what to say. Every time I drop it and decide not to do it, then I have a dream or something like yesterday, a friend sends me an impromptu email that says, "lets get a tattoo".
It HAS to be about my pain. Like I want what I hold inside of myself to show on the outside, but to encourage myself to keep going or validate my strength. I've thought about pictures and words and poems and....well, I'm going to toss a few out your way and see what you think. I'm kind of set on words in graphic writing. (or not)
Here is a couple that I've come up with;
In spite of the pain
on my last breath
I made my life worthy
PAIN
silent surrender
compassion to myself
endurance alone
get up and push
Anyone else have words to express a life time of pain that I could use or put together to use in similar fashion? I would love to hear your ideas.

i would have more if i could afford it. i thought long and hard before i got my first one, so i knew i really wanted it.
Serenity, I was thinking on my forearm, since that is not likely to get flabby and I could look at it. Where are yours located?
Thinking of a bandaid, I did see a tattoo that looked like a big long jagged scabbed gash with red rash around it. So raw, real and painful looking. It appealed to me because my pain is hidden and I get no attention or respect. This would be like wearing pain on my arm.
I love the words, Dixie and Muskrat!. Very creative and insightful, and of course poetic. It doesn't have to rhyme to be poetic. It just have to resonate with someone. I'd love to read more if anyone have any other statements like that. They are so powerful.
i have a full armband on the left arm and one across my back. they were designed for shooting pool. designed both.

enigma, i know what you mean...i thought of putting i AM in pain...if i hear "you don't look like you're in pain" again, well...
i had my arm band re-inked a few years ago b/c they do fade, but i was 35 when i got it...didn't want to be rash. i'd do a wrist band if i could now.
