I feel like I lost my job, but I didn't. My boss, who I was hired by 8 years ago when we were just 5 people has just quit today. He has mentored me and allowed me to grow into the strong person I am today. Now that we are 45 people today and 160 in Germany, he has been all that stands inbetween me and the madness of the agressive German management.
I felt like crying all day and the CEO who flew in to drop the news mentioned portioning off the boss' jobs and the CEO really didn't have a plan. All the ass kissers were all over him today and I just couldn't do that. Steve and I worked side by side for 8 years and the logical choice for his successor is me because of all my skill sets and already ingrained responsibility, EXCEPT, I have one weak point. I am a listener and not a talker and the German company loves people who yap the loudest and they praise those kind of people. If you can sell yourself to the head people in Germany, then you are set, and all I can do is show my long list of accomplishments, but since I feel uncomfortable bragging about something that I am educated with, and paid to do, I fear I am going to fail. I try to speak up, but feel when I talk about the obvious, that I am wasting time. Then I ask myself, do I want the job? Will it just isolate me further. Is it the best for me? Will I be asked to take on more responsibility and get paid the same? More headaches?
Already, Steve told me who they are leaning to, and this guy is the biggest blowhole that treats women like they are stupid. Ultimately a disaster. Add to that my incompetent assistant who is running around all excited like he is going to be picked to superceed me and my stomach turns at the insanity that might ensue if the wrong placements are made.
The good of all of this is that I can now ask Steve to be a reference for me when I look for another job. But, another job....well, that is pretty stressful.
So, suddenly, I feel like I'm standing on this cliff. I'm forced to jump because I can't stay where I am. A safer jump to the left brings me more of the same frustrations, but a safe paycheque. A jump to the right is a plummet into the complete unknown and I could land in something sweet or fall flat on my face and major turmoil.
Ugh, I am looking for a sign or something. I did stumble upon my resume this evening while looking for something else, so maybe that is the answer. I'm a smart cookie so maybe someone needs me out there.
Thanks for listening.

88FWhat I do like is early morning clouds and then they disappear and the sun comes out. That was it's cooler in the morning. I'm sitting here looking out the window at the hummingbird with the river and dike as a back drop. It's hard to invision ever leaving but I'm also a realist with aging, especially when the luncheon we had with thirty former classmates on Monday. Sandra, we get news of...

Are you waiting until the axe falls or pursuing a job change? I guess the best thing is to figure out where you want to be in 5 years.
Write down your strenghts and then match yourself with a company that will value you. A sign? Your resume and positing here.
Good luck,
Joanne
Why are you staying with that totally screwded up company? Surely you can find a job somewhere else???

Quote 1, He has mentored me and allowed me to grow into the STRONG PERSON I AM TODAY.
Quote 2, I AM A SMART COOKIE.
Whatever happens, whatever choices are made, your going to be alright. Yes its going to be difficult and yes there will be tears before bedtime, but YOU are going to get through this, cos thats what us hens do
: )
Oh and the other thing... you say your a listener and they want pple who can yap their mouth off,
which kind of person do you want to be? Which sits right within yourself?
Listening is a great skill and there will be lots of company's who see that as an advantage!
: )
I think I'd update the resume and start looking for something with a better work atmosphere. Maybe your Migraines would lessen...what a bonus that would be.
Whatever you do...your hens are behind you!

Real good advise, Joanne. Where do I want to be in 5 years. This company is changing but is it changing in the other direction to my core self?
I do make decent $$ and I have an office where I can close the door when I hurt so I'm afraid to lose that. But sitting around doing nothing but whining is killing me so I will fix that resume and put out my line.
Thank you so much for the support!
This is no guarantee, but, it is a future for me. The four partners and myself built this first company from the ground up and I know they respect me and we work so wonderful together. It may be a year or so before they need me, but I have the option of going to another job and then being available for them. They have build 3 successful business' so far and I want to be a part of #4.
Suddenly a window has opened! I'm going to post my resume and get out of this nuthouse. Learn something new and wait for the call.
Angela
