The marathon of doing my Mother's hair always takes a toll on me, but today was the worst. My shrink said the physical pain it causes has an emotional root...no surprise there. She's not been the ideal role model and that's most charitable way to describe it.
My neck and shoulder got worse by the minute and it was all I could do to finish. She pretends she doesn't want me to do anything to increase my pain, but let's me work on her hairdo until it's all I can do to raise my arms.
Then I drove back to the hospital and stayed a couple hours. I was shocked to see improvement in my very old friend. She still hasn't opened her eyes, but she slowly answers questions, though her left side is paralyzed. It's not easy to understand her, but last night we didn't know if she'd be alive in the morning!
My sister helped me get the apartment set up for my friend and I bought food and made muffins. She has an assorted meat and cheese plate, yogurt, bottled water, boiled eggs, fruit, cookies and more waiting for her. She'll get her after 2:00 in the morning and I want her to have anything she might like available.
I'm hurting so much...worse than usual. I really need to be OK by tomorrow... Really.

I'm guessing you feel the weight on your shoulders before you even meet your mother to do her hair, its no wonder you suffer so much after.
I wonder how she responds after you've done her hair. I wonder if she's like my dad when ive cooked him a Christmas dinner.... instead of "thank you so much" I get some comment about my roast potatoes : (
I hope you get plenty of rest and i'm sure your friend will appreciate all that you've done : )
