A funny thing happened.
I have some big gossips in my family and they are very judgemental and they will twist things just to make an issue so they can talk bad about someone behind their back. I tend to be the topic of choice between my mother, sister and oldest brother.
Well, the three of them are travelling to Winnipeg this week and a few months back they asked me to fly with them for a family gathering. I said no and made the excuse that I had renovations to do (I do, plus they are not nice to me so I don't want to spend the air $$ to be treated bad in another Province).
Things have changed and my best bud has cancer so I decided to drive there in September when she is going through Chemo. I told one niece in Winnipeg (where my older brother lives) that I am coming and to not tell anyone just now, and I told my sons to keep quiet. I don't want anyone to know until after their trip otherwise they will natter about me when they get together.
WELL, my mother found out somehow (I guess one son slipped it out), so she phoned and told me that she wouldn't tell anyone, then my second niece emailed me that the first niece told her, but she only told her mother and her mother promised that she wouldn't tell my brother (yeah right!), so now my brother knows. Now as far as I know, only my sister doesn't know.
LOL. All these gossipers are keeping the same secret from each other....too funny. But, I'm not stupid, because one of them will crack once they get together and all hell will break loose about why I couldn't afford a family get together but I could afford a friend, or whatever they conjur up to be undesirable to them. Whatever!. Still, I get the last laugh at this scenerio and I'm doing what I think is right.
Families.....sheesh,.....God has a sense of humor when he picks families.

i'm really glad you're going to visit your friend in her time of need b/c that will be much more appreciated and enjoyable...
i do wonder about God's choices there...maybe to prepare us for the battles ahead?
I found out the hard way many times.
Funny thing is my brother tells me not to tell mom. I don't and he ends up telling her. I have to look surprised when she tell me!
Sheesh is right.
At least there is real peace between my three sisters and I and also my two sister-in-laws.
