I have an appt. with the Ortho I saw last August. He was quick to say surgery needed on my rght shoulder! I don't know what else I would have expected...that's what he does. I don't care if he does work on the US ski team. I've decided he's knife happy!
The last time I saw him, he was concerned because I was already on more meds than he prescribes for post surgical pain. No I have to rewrite what I'm taking when I get there and tell him tha even with the changes and increases, my pain is far from managed. He had also warned me that my neck pain would be worse for a while after surgery. Is he nuts? It's starting hurt so much just trying to type, that it's burning.
I've had 5 abdominal surgeries in the past. Half of them were to fix what was botched from the previous! So I'm in no hurry to take a chance. Besides, I have so much pain in the rest of my body that it seems almost pointless.
Before my shoulder snapped and went into such painful spasms last Tuesday, I already had an appt. to go to a pain clinic on Friday. I wonder if it makes sense to keep both appts....in different places. I don't know what to do. I guess my brain isn't working the way it should with this pain knocking me so far down, lately.
I'm going to sleep on it. The answer better come quickly though since I've been getting up by 2:00!
What do I do??? Throw eggs with my left arm while it still works?

Maybe you can go to both appointments. The appointment with the surgeon is not the surgery date so let him look at it and hear what he has to say about your meds. Then go to pm and tell pm about the surgeon and his concerns about your meds after the surgery. pm should be able to work with the surgeon to make sure you are comfortable.
Hope you get some sleep.
But...like you...I've not been able to think too clearly through pain lately...
So....maybe I'm missing how it could be a bad thing..?

I am not ready to leap onto the operating table and I can't exactly go to different places and follow different plans...seems like a conflict. One of them had to go and I'd like to think the tornado was a clear message that it was the Ortho!
That's my story and I'm sticking to it.....
I also believe in weather warnings, and any other kind of warning that keeps me out of a surgeon's office. Maybe at some point you will change your mind. The doctor will still be there, knife in hand...

Just want to offer support and love to you...I am sorry that you had to choose between the two, but had I been in the same situation, I would have done the same thing. I hope the pain management physician or practioner will listen to you and let you participate in a treatment plan. Please let us know how it goes. I hope the weather went on out to sea and left you all alone.
