Coming home to an empty home after years of the hectic days of raising children, especially if you did it alone.
My son came home for the weekend because he has to work on Mother’s Day. I tried to enjoy the time with him but all I could think about is how I was going to handle him leaving again. I mean what is wrong with me right? So this morning I heard my son open his bedroom door and I knew it was time to say goodbye and the house goes to pitch quiet and me being lonely again.
I sat on my sons bed as he packed his stuff. Even my two dogs looked upset. This time my son was packing more stuff and his room is looking emptier and emptier. I fought so hard to keep my tears hidden. The time came as he rolled his suitcase out and got into the car. There was a super tight hug which I didn’t want to end. He got in the car, smiled, waved and drove off.
I thought I was under control but I walked into the house and cried like a 4 year old. I just couldn’t stop and I felt so much pain. The pain of letting go and doing “what” with the rest of my life?. My son doesn’t need me. My husband is doing totally fine and can’t understand me, So like you, I.m a mess. Waking up everyday sad and confused and trying to figure out my purpose at this point....how do I even do that? I just pray I will find a way to overcome and a find a new direction in my life.
