Well - if you break out laughing or suddenly start crying - seemingly for no reason - the medical business has now decided that this is a disease. They call if PBA - not sure what it stands for.

But ...... my sense is that they have never spent much time around parents of EC's. When we communicate here, there are times that I break out laughing at a comment someone makes - and of course - there are times I just break out crying. I don't think that is really too sick - it's a part of life - but oh no - the medical professions has now labeled this as a disease than can be cured by medications :)

And for Pete's sake - I know they've never been to an AA meeting - people break out laughing and sometimes crying there ALL of the time.

Do we think big pharma is at us again?

You betcha i do! A pill for everything, a label for everything, everything about us is WRoNG and needs their expertise and medication.

They want doped drones and dead BILLIONS....

Just sayin'....(grrr....)

I'm with you, LJ. In most lives, i think, some strong emotions play out and that is NORMAL...to be dealt with...not ABNORMAL...needing their freakin' pills...

Big Pharma. These are people who have hurt animals for years. I expect less from these people and why do we let Africans go untreated for AIDS? I agree they are too arrogant.

PBA? Isn't that the Professional Bowlers Association? I remember those old days of watching Chris Schenkel and Nelson Burton Jr. on the ABC broadcasts. I am really getting old!

PBA is really pseudo Bulbar Affect. I know about it bexause my Mum died from Lou Gerhig disease and PBA is part of it. It refers to laughing and crying when it is inappropriate. This happens because the nervous system is affected. It can happen with other illnesses too. Dont worry folks you wont be diagnosed with PBS when your nervous system is functioning appropriately lol

Charlottemarie, Lou gerhing disease is a horrible disease, I can't wait till they find a cure. Sorry about your Mom, it had to be hard on you. Hugs

I thought PBA was an ingredient in sun tanning lotion - I was pretty surprised when I saw it discussed as a disease.

But Charlotte is right - it has to do with laughing and crying inappropriately. However - that still puts me in the category of being affected by PBA. I mean I just sit here - typing and I'm laughing at myself......scary....

I am subject to inappropriate laughing especially in church. My family has a reputation for laughing at inopportune times so I.guess we qualify lol

It's a condition that some people whol have had strokes have. And it's pretty aweful. It's a lot more than just laughing or crying over an event in your life. it's more like doing it over your coffee being black, then your blanket being blue...etc, etc. It disrupts yoiur life (and strains the coping of the nursing home staff, yoiur roommate, and family that are around you....).
Sort of like describing depressing as feelings of sadness. Yes, it is...but it's much more than that.

I only vaguely knew one person on meds for it, and they got taken off for some reason. Med has a (very) low dose of an antiarrhythmic that's not often used because of side effects....so I'm not sure if there are issues with side effects. But it would be wonderful if some people got pham help (because a cold coke really isn't that funny to anyone else.....).
