Have you all noticed that there are all kinds of medications advertised on TV?
i just watched one for a medication that MAY help clear up red patches on skin - but it also MAY kill you via a myriad of diseases caused by this medication.
i don't know - this just doesn't feel like an appropriate trade-off - you know?
What IS the FDA doing? Do they not test drugs before the drugs kill people? Amazing.....
I guess drugs fix some things, but have an impact on other body systems, as well. Anaphylactic reactions, when a drug is first taken, is always listed but it doesnt mean it is common. If something bad was THAT common, the drug would unlikely to be approved.
They have to give those warnings, even the rare side effects, to avoid possible legal actions.
But this is just me talking and I dont know anything (-;
For all of us taking cholesterol meds, stay away from grapefruit!
(You are probably being silly, and here I go talking serious!)
No no - that's okay - yes I was being kind of silly - but it still boggles my mind that death could be a side-effect of a drug. I mean - a skin rash vs. death? I think I"d live with the rash.....
When I see these commercials, all I think about is the big bucks that Big Pharma is spending on them. No wonder health care is out of control. It's all about the bucks. $$$$$$$
The good ole' U.S.A and New Zealand are the only industrialized countries that allow direct to consumer advertisements of drugs all others countries are banned!
These commercials for drugs are on TV continuously here in the U.S. During daytime TV - I'd say just about every other commercial is about a medication. Either that or for a lawyer who wants to represent us for being hurt by 'bad drugs" - it's a racket - all the way around, imo.
Prescribing something to make you smile…….and ….there is no charge!!!
Costrophobia--Fear of rising drug prices.
Modern day prescription--take one pill as often as you can afford it.
Drug abuse used to be two doses of castor oil.
It's not habit forming. I know. I've been taking it for twelve
years now.
“Are you suffering from the high cost of prescription drugs? As your doctor for Wal-Eze, the pain reliever for your wallet!”
“It’s a mood elevator. Each capsule contains 10mg of ‘zippity’ and 5 mg of ‘doo da’.”
Especially for LJ and those of us who own and love our “fur-kids” (I just love that expression!)……….
Doctor to patients
You need strong medicine to relieve stress…….I’m prescribing a puppy
If your apartment doesn’t allow pets…I’m prescribing dog saliva to rub on your face when you feel sad.
People always feel happier when a dog licks their face so we’re developing a new anti-depressant from dog drool! “It’s a mood elevator. Each capsule contains 85g dog drool, 10mg of ‘zippity’ and 5 mg of ‘doo da’.”
Sov: Your right they only advertise ‘over the counter’ drugs here.
After all the years of "Feminine Product" being flashed all over the airwaves, I am secretly tickled they have finally aimed "personal Issues" advertising at men.....just think turnabout is fair play!
lol the reason big pharma advertises is so you can run to your USA dr and demand the new drug. IMHO I personally never take a drug less than 6 years on the general market. this is just like the way they market sugar cereal to kids during cartoons
Good point Explorer.....kind of like I don't buy new cars, but slightly used ones...someone else has already taken the new car $ hit and worked out the kinks! No guinea pigs here! LOL
I am not a good one to respond re: medicines----I could write all day long about that. IMO---alot of people are gullible to take whatever the doc gives them. That is why they get "samples" then the doc sees how it affects some of his patients and if they live through it --- well the next one in line gets it too. It is so sad to see people trusting them this much....with the internet, do the research people.
I agree about older drugs, I take those and bingo! they work the best. As far as cholesterol meds, those are a real killer in themselves. Makes me sick when they advertise that the side effects are "rare" --- no they are not. The dr just tells the people they have arthritis or need to exercise more and that is why their legs get skinny and hurt. Muscle wasting disease is real --- the heart is a muscle too as it wastes away. I have seen so many people eat whatever they want then pop the cholesterol pill thinking it will erase the damage.
It is true all about $$$$ and keeping people dependent on their doc running back for prescriptions....mine dropped me because I would not get all the mirade of tests he wanted me to have....radiation is bad. He told me I am not following his instructions---him and the other docs in there own the clinic and that is a big money maker, tests, tests and more tests. Does not matter if they burn you up with radiation as long as they get their slice of the cake.
Oh well-----it is all racket like was mentioned and people really need to be vigilant with their health.

But the feminine products ads are even bolder than they used to be. Whatever happened to The Feminine Mystique?
