Serenity, I'll add as a half-Polish person, there's also herbs given to the bride, etc....

Wheat was also readily available in any area of France---and symbolizes good harvests in most cultures that have wheat (e.g., kids) so...

As for me, at all weddings I've attended last 10 years or so, we blew soap bubbles.
