I was born with a birth defect that caused me to have diverticulits and after 2 surgeries 2/3 of my colon is gone and reattached.
The first thing you need to do is get you colon clean. At my store is a bottle ( will find the name later ) that is green and drinking that will clean out the colon.
The next step. Ask the pharmacist for a recommendation for the best stool softener. Everyday moigake sure you have had at least 32 grams of fiber. All Bran is a good source. Fruit and veggies. Prunes and prune juice.
Do not stop doing this on a daily basis. I had to make my father a few years ago when he was 84 do this protocol because he had the same problem as you and did end up going to the hospital at 3 AM.
Good evacuation................
Got to give up those sodas ;). Drink water and juices. Don't go over board with the juice.
Use suppositories not laxatives, a daily stool softener. You can try Miralax, follow the instructions carefully!
Our meds can cause constipation, foods we eat. Eat foods high in fiber, hey you're on a diet and they going along with it.
I suffered severe constipation from 16 until the past year due to my surgeries. Now my diet is giving me the spasms I need.
Good luck!
Thanks for the advice.I would jump off a cliff to avoid what I went thru yesterday. It was just awful.
Moon- Let me know about the colon cleanse. Does it just run you out? I am calling my pharmacist TODAY, he will be of more help than my doctor. My pharmacist is great BTW. I never know how much fiber I am eating so dumb me prolly not enough.
Toni- You said not to strain. I know. My doctors told me if I strain I could have another brain hemorraghe and die. No pressure right? But if I dont strain it won't come out. Like it just wont. I only have an 8 oz Coke in the morning. Apparently sodas back you up? I am getting Miralax TODAY. I hope it works fast.
Toni, you said you had problems since 16. Have you ever had what happened to you what happened to me yesterday? Was it painful? The only solution is to pry it out myself. Maybe I didnt have an impacted bowel but it sure was damn close.
Gald I'm not alone, call me a baby but I dont want to die on the toilet!!
Thanks,
Martin
I forgot to add,I am sorry for your condition. I hope it doesnt casue you too much daily discomfort. I have a friend with divert and says it knocks him up in bed for a few days. Ahh getting old sucks!
Martin
I had what happened to you all the time! I've yet to die on the commode!
Hope the pharmacist sets you up right.
My son has a MACE which is a tiny hole in his abdomen that is connected to his colon. He then flushes his colon with 1500 CC of water. This is because he is paralyzed with spina bifida and cannot move his bowels without pain. We have spent hours in classes about the colon and the best way to prevent impactions and what you experienced.
Miralax is the best treatment for constant constipation AFTER completely cleaning out the bowels. They really discourage enemas ( oops Toni ) as that only cleans the lower track. Start with a clean colon and keep on top of it. You can train the colon for evacuation.
My colon since the last surgery is divert free all the genetic track has been removed so that hell is gone. What I am left with is colon spasms..........better then the divert. So thank you for your concern.
Ask away.........
I've had those embarrassing "stuck" stools before. No other way to describe them other than OUCH! or EEEWW!.:)
I've had major problems with my bowels on more than one occasion. Ive had to go to the hospital and have them remove my bowels from being impacted so. It's not anything I recommend unless you have to.
I started using Per Diem, which can be found in Walgreens, CVS or any big pharmacy. It's all natural andvi take 2 every night after dinner. It doesn't cause any cramping which a lot of other laxatives do. Please try this and take it daily. It really works well. It is all natural. Just make sure with your doctor or the pharmacist that it doesn't interfere with any of your other meds.
Hope this helps
Hugs,
