Hello my good friends at the FC,
Well the crap sort of hit the fan at work Friday at my work. We work in teams of two at my job. We handle a certain numer of accounts and duties. Well my co-worker and partner was let go. Im not sure exactly why. Frankly, she was useless as she called in sick alot, complained and took alot of breaks. I did 75% of the work anyways.
Heres the issue. They are not replacing her. I have been asked to run my team solo. I have alot of mixed emotions. I am thrilled they chose me. I was told that i was chosen becasue of my good atttitude and performance. Not bad for a person with half a brain! But this will certainly increase my workload. It is definitley a two person department but for now I will manage. I dont know whether to be happy or am I a sucker? They are taking away a whole ONE of my duties and said I will get help if needed.
Let me just say I work for a good company. The heat issues were more the buidling owners than my company. I work with a great group of people. I have already had several offers from people for help if I need it. My obvious concern is my health. I cannot do two peoples jobs. So we will see how it goes. Right now i am a star at work and they are being very nice to me. I realize that my be fleeting.
My point in communicating this is to let everyone at the FC know how much I appreciate your support. My success is your success. I cant do it alone or without my friends support. I know my body and will take care of myself. maybe this will kick me in the ass to get in better shape physically. i hope the future is bright.
Feel free to comment freely, we are allowed on the internet at work and I havent said anything bad. If you dont see me as often, you will know why. I dont expect to stop my time and friendships at the FC.

The most important ( besides your health ) is to create a cohesive support team from the beginning. Tell them how much you appreciate them and that you know you can count on them if needed now that you are doing a " solo " act.
Pay increase as Serenity indicated should be in discussions.

I see a fine line between a compliment to your abilities and being taken advantage of. I've seen great workers become mediocre at best because of this very thing. Now, if you tell me you each had hours of downtime everyday, then I could agree with the decision.
If you feel like your quality of work is slipping and you can't keep up with the workload, you need to have a discussion with your boss. Being in management myself, I can help you with that discussion if it comes down to that. I couldn't agree more with Serenity that you need to document your daily activities.
Most importantly, keep an eye on your health and stress level.

I'm glad they think you're good at what you do, but this is also the company that said you couldn't miss any work or you'd be fired? Is that right or am I wrong with my information? I'm happy for you, but I'm also very concerned. Please put your health first, like Serenity said, I hope it includes a raise.
I worked for a company because I had no choice, I needed the job. I ended up working almost 80 hours weekly. I caught a lot of people stealing from them and saved them lots of money by turning those people in. I worked whenever they asked me too and in the end they showed me no loyalty at all. Meanwhile I eas jeapodizing my health and well being. Just please really think about everything together.
I just worry about you Martin and I don't want anything happening to you because of a job. They're always nice when they need something and right now they need you!

Champ ... please, just cruz, don't take on too much extra or to much more than you can handle,.. just worry bout you... n """Ditto"""" ,...... Please,... ask for help when, or even If, things ever start to get a bit to challenging,... your doing the company a favour by saving them money on the extra staff..

If it was me I'd set a review time (6 weeks?) with them to see how things are going doing the solo act. Ask that if you feel that it's a success you get a raise and/or other wants and needs at that time. I done this myself and was respected for it and got a very hefty raise and part time help out of it.
You better find time for us! I so need to pick on your ornery ass!

Thanks to everyone for your repsonses. Everyone had some great ideas. I didnt mean to be cocky and say I was a star, I meant to say they are TREATING me like a star. Ugggh, this is just so much worry. As Vicky pointed out, we uinfortunately don't have alot of down time, so the reasoning is questionable. I have already raised this point.
ME- yes you are correct. They had threatened to fire me if I missed any more sick time. That was just six months ago. Since then, I stepped up my game. Havent missed but one day, never late and did a kick ass job. But I know full well the love for me will be fleeting.
I have a meeting today to lay out the details of the future. I hope this works cause Im stupid and will work myself to death. Updates coming I guess.
