Funeral, I almost forgot this one. Our family was friends with this Cantonese family that owned the variety store up the street. They came to Canada as political refugees since their entire family was on Chairman Mao's hit list. A couple of his brothers didn't make it.

There grandfather died and we were invited for the 3 day wake at the home that was complete with professional mourners also. What we noticed was when family viewed the deceased they'd often take a picture of him. It was later told to us that they would put that picture with other 'ancestors' pics on their altar at home.

What was neat was the whole 3 day ceremony ran basically parallel to those 3 day native burial ceremonies.

    I recently heard a great 2007 song the other day, "Falling Slowly" because it popped up in my newsfeed, accompanied by the sad news that the  male singer, Glen Hansard, just died in a motorcycle accident.  I learned that the song won an award and was featured in an indie movie called Once. I just watched it, and it's really good.  They made it in 3 weeks on a $100,000 budget. It's streaming on...
