-pattern (automotive) shop- my job was to glue 45 degree angles on the patterns to prepare them for the mold machine
-dry cleaner clerk
-barmaid
-boat service technician- assorted maintance on boats at different yacht clubs. I learned a lot about engines, boat hulls, preserving teakwood...this was a very physically demanding but fun job.
-direct care staff at a group home- assisted the developmentally disabled residents in daily tasks as needed.
After college
-group home manager- my job was to make sure the direct care staff did their jobs and to make sure the group home complied with the countless requirements from The Dept of Public Health, Dept of Nursing, Dept of Mental Health, Medicaid and assorted concerned volunteer groups. I loved the residents but hated the job.
-Insurance adjustor- I was a field adjustor which meant I travelled around investigating all kinds of claims for the claims handlers. It was fascinating for a while because I knew nothing about insurance so I was always learning. Eventually I was promoted to handling Workers Comp claims. I sat at a desk next to a phone. I soon was miserable.
-Field research for a university psychology dept- sounds more fun than it was.
Now I am self employed and work with dogs. I like it.
