well, I had a reason to rant the other day as I was browsing the college football games and, to my surprise, there was a game on tv featuring a team that had a losing record. Now, when I grew up, going to a bowl game was something special. In fact, back in the day our Wisconsin football team kinda sucked and when it went to something called the "John Hancock Bowl" with a 7-4 record I felt proud. We were in an elite group of "good" teams.
But now it seems there are so many bowls that even mediocre bordering on bad teams can partake. So why not expand the bowls even further. I got some really cool suggestions I came up with on my way of doing my paper route today.
1. The Barack Obama Hope-and-Change bowl
I think it would be so appropriate if the two teams that play in this would have losing records and the score would end in a 0-0 tie.
2. The Tea Party Bowl
Why not continue with making our sport political? Instead of cheerleaders, there would be protesters on the sidelines.
3. The Al Gore Inconvenient Truth Bowl
This would have to be held during July for maximum effect.
4. The Viagra Bowl
If the ball games is going on for more than 7 hours, call a doctor.
5. The PETA Bowl
Only veggies allowed at the snack bars.
6. The Daily Strength bowl
A support group would be set up for players on the losing team so they can get mutual support in their time of sorrow.
Anybody got any other ideas?
