OK, twenty-five years ago it was pretty common to let kids ride in the back of pickup trucks even on highways....a sure fire death sentence if there was an accident.

Lots of people did things that we don't commonly except now, many years ago.

I think this one should get dropped.

It seemed a really strange thing to so but does that make him unfit to be president. Did he have a pattern of doing these kinds of things to his dogs??? Why he didn't just bring the dog to a kennel while he was going to be done only he can answer.

Should this be made a big deal of instead of what is really troubling or country and what is he going to do about it to fix it???

He did this in 1981 - in that era as Patti said - we did a lot of things we wouldn't consider today. In a carrier designed for that specific purpose, i don't see a problem with it. Would I do it, probably not - but then I don't have a car full of people either. Growing up - we used to put our dogs in the back of a pick-up. Now, you have to have them tethered so they can't jump out. My dog LOVES to stick his head out through my moon roof as we're driving down the road, is that wrong too?

I agree with boomer - we should not be side-tracked by such things as this - we have much bigger, important issues to be concerned about.

Yep, nit picking isn't very productive. I was still training my dogs with training (choke) collars in the 80's. Guess that makes me a villain too.

It sounds really bad doesn't it? I am sure that's the whole point of the story, but would anyone say anything about it if he had been travelling in a pick up truck with the dog in the back? "Tied to the roof of the car" that headline creates a colourful image based of course on how wild your imagination is. No one would have even read the story "Romney travels with dog in back of pick up". By air tight crate I am assuming it was one of those ones that is all closed in except for where the door is- not an open page wire one that would have wind blowing through it. I'm pretty sure they don't make an air tight animal carrier- that'd be called a coffin!

No Compost that doesn't make you a villain. Pinch collars are actually one of the kindest ways a person can train a dog.

This post was meant to be mostly tongue-in-cheek - obviously that was not picked up on.

Usually a well placed - lol helps others to know when one is joking. Particularly when someone types something like this..."I think that is blatant abuse of the pup."

I do think it was abusive to the pup at that time - but at this time, the image is somewhat comedic - at least to me.
