any Netflix followers out there? I am. I'm on the one disk at a time plan but I can stream movies through our Xbox so the amount of movies I watch through Netflix is more. Here's some brief rants of some latest videos I watched.
I got a hold of the movie based on Stephen King's "the Langoliers" It's about people who pass out on a plane and wake up and realize the rest of the passengers are missing. the pilots can't contact any of the towers and so now I"m interested in their plight. They manage to land in Maine and can't find anybody there and this one rocket scientist of a passenger senses that they, for some reason, have gone through a time rip and appeared out of time sequence with everybody else. He opens a can of beer and it is flat. but AHA wait a few minutes and it begins to fizz and foam. The beer, apparently, has caught up in time with everything else.
But then these pac man creatures start appearing and eat up the whole landing strip they are on and so they have to leave. Huh? I'm left scratching my head wondering why this is. The landing strip in Maine did nothing except be there and it is the passengers that are out of time sequence, not everything else. so why are they eating up the landing strip.
Now we've seen tons of sci fi time travel shows. If they are out of time, why aren't the people who belong to that sequence there? the explanation I saw was that they cannot interfere with the past and so the people disappear to prevent them from messing with the past. But then why are the pac mans eating the landing strip in Maine? Where do the people from the past go if they can't be there when the passengers that are out of time arrive? the whole thing is implausible when you think about it.
Other movies I"ve watched lately:
The Winter's Bone (or A Winter's Bone). This young girl tries to find her Dad who is wanted for a court trial and if he don't show up, the house gets taken. But all these yahoo hicks prevent her from doing that because they got a secret to hide (not sure yet what that is) and in the end one woman who was slapping her up shows her where he Dad is dead and in a lake. She instructs the girl to take a chainsaw and saw off her Dad's hands as proof that he's dead (or something like that... I won't watch that movie again). Needless to say, at that point I turned it off.
Case 39 with Renee Zellwegger. A revision of the scary girl theme made common by such movies as "The Ring." I thought the movie was pretty good but not great and worth watching, but I didn't get frieked out over it. This is a rather uncommon movie role for her who is busy playing the sweet cute girl who you just gotta fall in love with. So now she's helping out this girl who almost gets killed by her parents. Only the girl is the devil or something like that. Rennee ends up putting her house on fire and that doesn't kill the kid and then she drives her and the kid right into the lake and she gets out but the girl (or demon or whatever) drowns. I won't be owning this movie any time soon.
George Carlin "It's Bad for you" Carlin is great... nuff said.
BTW who even pays attention to the web site rottentomatoes.com anyway? they review movies and gave Case 39 way too strict a sucky review. I think they are all a bunch of disgruntled movie reviewers who like to throw mudd because they are so nontalented they hate everybody who is....

i love george carlin.
me too, loved 'the stand.' stephen king is too good of a writer for me to read. scares me to death. i did read 'rose matter' though. it was great. and i read is memoir book. the first half is about his life and the second half is about 'how to write.' i thought the second half would be boring but it was fantastic! read it twice in a row!
