New hobby

So along with making jewelry, soap, scarves, leaning keyboards, palm-reading and tarot...I recently took up cooking. I used to joke that the only time i go into the kitchen is on my way to the powder room. We ate out a lot...or did frozen, or something simple like shake and bake or spaghetti. But I had this idea in my head, and the nutritionist suggested i start looking for diabetic meals.....so I have been cooking from scratch about twice a week. i hope to increase it but right now i find myself having too many commitments where I am not home. It turns out that I love to cook! I was concerned...I lost a large portion of my taste and smell years ago so i have to trust the recipes I am using, because taste testing does not work. But so far so good! My faves so far have been the chicken cordon blue, and the stuffed portobello mushrooms.

I would love the CCB.....I love that stuff...but I hate portobello mushrooms....

but good on you for cooking at home....does hubby enjoy it?

If you need practice...my kitchen is available! I love to collect recipes...but I am a lazy cook. If it looks too involved...Nope not doing it.

I started s new painting. With a sun and flowers insid the sum it will say

It's just a child like painting. It's fun and for my grand baby room here at my house

Sounds delicious. I am getting too lazy to cook. Lately, I just make a salad with cooked chicken and olive oil. I made fried carrot sticks the other day which was delicious.

My son is coming over today so it will be fried salmon.

Oh wow, I can relate to getting too lazy to cook, Koyu. Oh, and salmon is an all time favorite. <smile> Of course, when someone normally does the cooking and has tailored his cooking to my every dietary whim over the years, I feel like a spoiled brat. Usually, I'm a very good cook though... have to work in shifts since the MS seems to wear me out so much.

wow, you are biting off alor Diane! I hope you enjoy all your new found hobbies. Are they all new? I was like u w cooking, but in last year or so have learned to cook w fresh veggies and basics. Tastse so much better than fast food, or even most resturaunt food. KOYU, fried carrots?? pls share how u did that, I hv bunches of carrots to eat.

I invited my brother over Sunday for dinner because his wife is out of state. It was obvious when I invited him that he questioned whether it would be edible. LOL!! I did the portobellos again, and chicken cacciatore over pasta. It was a hit. My husband is enjoying the meals. Gusto....I have been making jewelry, soap, and scarves for years. The other 3 are new...and going slowly. But I have all the time in the world. My hours were cut a few years ago...to part-time. At the time it was almost a blessing, because my mother needed so much. But now I have all this time to fill. Alice, the painting sounds wonderful! I sketch a little, but have not yet tried painting except for one of those classes where the teacher shows you step by step. I was just given some books on painting by my mother-in-law that had belonged to my husband's step-grand-mother..so we'll see.

Baked carrots are very good too. When I was experimenting with both the kale and the carrot chips, I'd use a potato peeler, toss the carrots in olive oil and some nutritional yeast (brewer's yeast - for protein) and they were "ever so tasty!"

The soap making sounds like fun. After looking up the things required, I chickened out - just not sure I'd handle things lie lye okay.

I'd love to see pictures of the crafts everyone does. I didn't notice that our group pictures came over with us... do we still have the option of uploading?
