Favorite Christmas movies

What are your favorite Christmas movies? I always watch National Lampoon's Christmas Vacation and How the Grinch Stole Christmas(original animated version) every Christmas Day.

Christmas Vacation is a must for sure. I love Elf too and I have a certain sentimentality for Home Alone (the first one, but not the sequels). And Fred Claus is kind of underrated, same with the Santa Clause (but again not the sequels). I feel like there's a few good ones I'm totally blanking on right now... perhaps someone else will mention them and refresh my memory.

I love the animated Grinch special too (I don't really think it counts as a movie though, isn't it only like a half hour...?) but the live action movie does nothing for me, even though I thought Jim Carrey was the only person they could even consider to play the Grinch - something about the expansion of the story that makes it fall flat, I think.

gkneez, that's one of my brother's favorites too. He used to always watch it when we were kids but for some reason I never did until several years back when we were visiting family in South Carolina and the both of us had stayed up with my cousin-in-law to wrap presents on Christmas Eve and the marathon was on. The two of them were both loving it but I was a little lost having never seen it before... yet I knew some of the classic lines from it like that one you mentioned because they're often brought up around this time of the year.

While I'm thinking of it, it's not a Christmas movie but for a long time they've aired it around the holidays so it's become sort of a tradition to watch this time of the year - "The Wizard of Oz". I don't know why they started airing it specifically in this time frame... it used to always air on Thanksgiving but they had it on today on TBS along with some other Christmas specials. It used to be the regular Thanksgiving night viewing for us... might still be the case if someone's airing it again this year that night.

    I recently heard a great 2007 song the other day, "Falling Slowly" because it popped up in my newsfeed, accompanied by the sad news that the  male singer, Glen Hansard, just died in a motorcycle accident.  I learned that the song won an award and was featured in an indie movie called Once. I just watched it, and it's really good.  They made it in 3 weeks on a $100,000 budget. It's streaming on...
