Hi. Congratulations on your pregnancy:) I've had 2 children, one natural and one c-section. I've discovered that it really doesn't matter how they get here. Once here they're a blessing. I would talk to a dr that knows about syrinxes. I wonder if bearing down while giving birth naturally may affect the fluid in and out of the syrinx.

14 weeks ago I had our lovely little girl.
My older two were natural deliveries. this time however health professionals went into melt down as they knew about the syrinx. I was told I would have a c section under general, I wasn't happy so I searched the internet. to find that in America they have done c section under loca...
I had to see a spinal consultant who looked at my mri to say I had two syrinx and not the one as I has been told!!!.. after a discussion about pros and cons he was for a local. Reason being if you have a general and come round without a nurse being near, with the tubes down your throat. he said the pressure of coughing is the same as pushing on your syrinx.
on the 8 july this year our little girl was born by c section under local. I have just had another mri to see if the pregnancy has had an effect on my sprinx's. I cant knock the care I have received with this condition.

I didn't have a baby being male LoL but recently had a routine hernia repair under general anaesthetic. Usually this would be a day case but because I had a syrinx and SM with a lot of symptoms I had to stay in over night and was monitored carefully. I therefore suspect that any operation under general anaesthetic on a SM patient would require closer monitoring than usual.
