Hi, I'm a 20 male in South Korea. I've just got here to ask some questions about syringomyelia. I have a syringomyelia near T-4 level of spine, and I found it last October. I had no symptoms at all until last September but I suffer legs weakness with the feeling my calf strained , and frequent peeing (5-7 oz per void).

In our community, people recognized a new surgery that surgeons cut the filum terminale to relieve the symptoms and make syrinx not to get bigger. I heard the surgery was first adopted in Barcelona, Spain. They have done it for almost 30 years, and I heard they have many datas for the patients.

Many syringomyelia patients in South Korea had been to Spain for the surgery since last year. And fortunately, two hopspitals in South Korea - which is not that small hospitals - began the surgery since last winter. Now about 20 patients in Korea had that surgery here.

But what I am concerned about is that if the surgery has definitely improvement in our symptoms, why medical world does not recognize this? We have 'big five' university hospitals in Seoul but neurosergeons there do not accept this surgery with no reasonable explanations at all. So I'm just curious whether patients in USA know this surgery and what do hospitals in USA think about this. Also, are there any group or forum for syringomyelia in online like the one in my country? Any informations would be helpful.
