Syringomyelia is a disorder in which a cyst or tubular cavity forms within the spinal cord. This cyst, called a syrinx, expands and elongates over time, destroying the center of the spinal cord resulting in pain, weakness, and stiffness in the back, shoulders, arms, or legs.
Today I tried to work in the garage on my truck and found that I had to take more breaks than I have had to in the past.I got tires quick and was real wea, my arms have lost a lot of strength and my legs actually hurt from trying to get up and down.Has anyone else had this kind of problems and what if anything can I do to get my strength and indurance back up to close to normal.I know from talking with my doc that this is one of the side affects of SM but isn`t there something I can do that might help me to at least slow it down a little?

Yes, I too have struggled with the weakness and pain in the arms and legs. I am not sure what can be done about it really. I try really hard to just keep going each day and just push through it. Some days are harder than others. My doctors seem to be completely clueless as to my condition, so no help from them. Good luck. Keep working on your truck-sometimes doing things that you love can help ease the pain/take your mind off of things for a while.
