I have joints of a 70 year old

I went to a new foot doctor today and this is the fourth doctor I have gone to about my ankles spasming and not being able to walk very well. Well he actally did X-rays four doctor later someone finally X-ray them and the doctor told me that I almost have bone on bone. He said that if he never met me or my age that he would think that I am 60 to 70 years old. Thats what you want to hear at the age of 25 :P. There is nothing they can do until the RA is under control they talked about fusiing but with all the swelling and all that it can't be done right now. He said about 3 to 5 years it will be bone on bone. At least I finally have answers on whats going on instead of being told nothing. Its not infomation I wanted but at least its information that I got. So yay for that.

i wish i could just come over there and give you a big hug. Ankle pain is no fun at all. Its in the top 3 of my physical complaints. We really take for granted the parts of us that do work. i didn't know ankles were so important untill mine started swelling and aching and popping.

I'm glad that someone finally took x rays and now you have an answer. You know its not nothing or a small thing. I'm just sorry this was the answer you got. If mine dont respond to the methatrexate and prednisone i'm gonna be pushing for some x rays. Some days i have to rely on my cane just due to the pain.
I think i remember you saying that you started a new med recently. How is that going? Is it helping any of your stiffness or swelling or pain at all? I hope it works soon, you have been thru so many treatments.

I'm a tad older than you but i feel like an old lady. i'm 28. Me and my mom are about even for how mobile we are and how many naps we take and how we gimp around and pop LOL and she's 57!

I'm glad that you finally got an x-ray and some validation. I hope you find some relief. Be careful about surgeries and always get multiple opinions. Gently exercise those ankles and get some blood flowing. I hope your RA improves so you will have more options. I also have some prematurely "old" joints of my own, along the spine. Joint pain can be quite painful as you know! You can always get the pain treated now even if there is no other fix they can do right now.

Yes, I am glad that you got some validation, to me the day that I was validated by my new Neuro, and my pain management Doctor, was the best day in my life. At least now they can treat you, and you will come to the point were pain will not rule your life 24/7, chronic pain will just be part of what you are, NOT who you are. Big Hugs,

I am so very glad that someone finally listened to you and validated you and also found out what was going on.

Please let us know what happens from here. I hope you are able to get some treatment that provides you some relief.

Sorry it's not good news, but at least you know what you are dealing with now. So yay for that much!

I don't know about surgery, but there are treatments out there to help out the aching joints. Keep us updated on what happens next roomie!

Nothing is really going to happen next except that cartilage is going to wear down even more and it will be bone on bone. THe new medication that I have been on hasn't help. but I can never work a job that involves alot of standing. He doesn't know if this will prevent me from not walking eventually. As it is now I can only be stand on my feet for 20 minutes until the pain is too unbareable. I usualyl have to use a wheel chair when I go to the stores. But there isn't anything thats going to help.. Even if they get the RA under control the damge is already done and cannot be helped. so I am just kinda stuck but I am just happy that I have answers on whats going on.
