Two years ago on an impulse, resulting from a buildup of self hatred and bullying from outside sources, I decided to drink myself silly and drive my car into a pole. I survived and lost everything, and have been working myself back up to a good place. However, I am having trouble forgiving myself for my selfish behavior, because my actions did not consider others (family, significant other, friends) and hurt them all tremendously. However, not many of them are aware of my purpose in making the decision, and passed it off as irresponsibility (which it was, in a way). I'm also having difficulty forgiving myself for creating the life I have now, which could've been avoided if the accident was successful. It took me extra time to finish school, and I have a limited number of friends..my job is also menial, which I fear is a result of my prolonged time to finish my education.
Does anyone have any suggestions about getting over the failed attempt and moving on? Thoughts are much appreciated.

i tried to kill myself 3 times many years ago. things come on us & we dont mean to hurt anyone. ill never forget my late mother's hurt. she was an angel but i was about 30 years old & i will never forget this was the first time she ever turned her back on me & left the hospital where i was strapped down. it hurts me to this day that i did that to her. now at 57 i have no one & am getting those suicide feelings again. parents died, i have no family or friends. im so alone. im praying for you that you will realize i dont know why god keeps us here, but theres gotta be some reason. please take care of yourself & contact me if you ever need to vent or a shoulder to cry on. I am also a suicide attempt survivor. Because of the emotional agony my family had put me through, I never felt guilty for any pain those attempts caused them. As for friends, my self-esteem was so low that I never imagined people would care deeply or grieve for me. As with many depressed people, I thought the world would be better off without me. The important thing is that God forgave me. Blessings to you.

My story feels like yours. In a couple of weeks it will be a year..... I was technically brain dead and I don't know what saved me.... only god? I blamed it on ambien so I wouldn't lose everything. The guilt I think was worse than dying. My daughter who was 14.... my parents. I felt like scum. I've prayed and prayed, thrown away everything that's reminded me of that night no matter how important to me it was. It wasn't until recently I've had a few dreams about it. I dread for those days to pass and hopefully then I'll be ok. When you feel you don't have a friend and no one understands you it's amazing how far you can be pushed. Yes I regret it. But my feelings hasn't changed, just my ways to deal with it. ;
