We all xpected him to boast, even to lie about his accomplishments, such as claiming that pharmaceutical prices went down in 2018. We all expected him to tout his pet wall project, but not by blaming immigrants for most of the problems in America. What we did not expect was thinly-veiled extortion: "If there is going to be peace and legislation there cannot be war and investigation."
House speaker Pelosi has promised that there will not be another government shutdown over border security issues. Perhaps she has issued a thinly-veiled threat of impeachment, rather than a cavilling committment to capitulation. We shall see.
