Spouses of Sexual Addicts. Community Group
NewHarmony
It has been almost a month since I found out my husband had relapsed again. We have been together over 23 years and have been battling his sex addiction the whole time. After the previous relapse, we signed a marriage contract. We supposedly were both giving this a final try and working on our marriage 100%. We have been going to marriage counseling and he to all his groups and seeing a counselor. Once again he is in so much pain and trying really hard. He says he has never really been in recovery but is now. On the surface I see that he is doing things differently. He has asked that I not file for divorce but be separated for a year to see if he can beat this addiction. How would I ever know until he got caught again? I see over the course of the last month, he keeps asking for a little more - it is now whether we can live in the same house but be separated. I am mostly upstairs anyway and he downstairs or in his studio. He promises not to communicate with me. I hate that my life is going to change so much. Everything from the little things - my birthday in a few days, our granddaughters 1st birthday party (he is not biologically related so won't be invited), a planned trip to PA in October, Thanksgiving here with the whole family for the first time in years and our special Christmas get away at Big Sur. And then there are the big things. Tomorrow I am asking him to move out. I am pretty sure he will as it will be much cheaper for him to share a home than me get my own place. And he does NOT like to spend our money. He has said that what he will move out if it came to it. I am giving him a month. If he doesn't then I will move out. My total income is only $250 per month after paying our $1700 health insurance but luckily we have assets. I just can't believe that it has finally come to this - after all the effort. After all the pain. It is hard to start over at almost 63. I am not looking forward to the time ahead. I feel so sad today.
I've been with my H for 23 years also, will be married for 20 next month, but it's not worth celebrating in my opinion.
Since my ultimatum last December, he has had some minor slips and I am once again, forced to think about consequences. Nothing I do or say does any good, but he knows his next step will be out the door for anything major.
Thing is, he is a great husband otherwise, and I have no major complaints, other than his porn use. Such a tough corner to be backed into! And I have no job either, but I'm working on finding one. Baby steps to independence. If only I could win the lottery, then I'd be able to be a lot more stern with him, lol!
Everyone has their limit, and you've obviously spent a lot of time to help your H get him sober. Nobody here will spite you for leaving him, or making him leave.
Staying to endure more pain & hurt is cruel and abusive. Save yourself and get some peace in your life!
((hugs))
