This is for any one that has found themselves in the long wait for Soicial Security. Any one that has gone through this process or is in the middle of it. Venting is allowed.
Hi-as I mentioned on another post, I was not approved for SSD, which I should have assumed. Of course, I am going to appeal the decision. When I received the information from them, they said that it is now possible to file the appeal online with all the paperwork online. It seems pretty simple to complete-basically they want you to submit anything you feel might help them approve the case that hasn't been submitted before-I know I will get more files from my doctors and anything else I can get. Do I need to hire a lawyer to do this, or do you think that this, like the original application, can be done on my own. What would the lawyer do at this point, besides collecting the additional paperwork and sending it in? Would I be seeing a judge now, or is it still just handing in papers. I know if I am required to see a judge, then I definitely will hire a lawyer. Can someone please let me know what they think? Thanks for your help. God Bless. Kathy

My lawyer for another affair told me to file a reconsideration on my own..if it goes in front of a judge then get a lawyer. Good luck.

I agree with Lefty. Also, from what i've heard it's not good to do the online filing. It's better to file with paper and keep copies of e'thing.

Tiredgurl-I see what you mean-I guess what I'll do is print out the form, fill them out and make copies of them and any other medical stuff I have, send them registered mail and return receipt. That way I'll have copies of everything, and Social Security will have to sign the card when they receive the paperwork. I get so scared of losing stuff-I also applied for Social Services, sent them the work, everything was signed for, and they lost it. I didn't know that it had been lost, and kept wondering after 2 months why I hadn't heard from them. I checked with the post office again, and their tracking showed it had been signed for 2 months previously. So I had to do everything over. Maybe I'll file the appeal papers online, but also make copies, so that at least I'll have proof that I appealed the decision on a certain day. They sure make it hard for us just to get turned down time after time. Thanks for your help-I'll keep you updated with my progress. God Bless. Kathy

How convenient of the social services to lose your paperwork, that is terrible. In looking back this is all such a time consuming mess. Unless there are not more significant papers and proof I have found they will just turn a person down both times wanting them to get an atty for the hearing. I am waiting for the hearing date now and it seems like it is going on forever. My adm law judge is in CA and I am in WI so it will be by satellite at the courthouse in a room. With this Parkinson's disease I will probably be shaking like a leaf by the time I get there.

They really make this as difficult as possible, don't they? Is it a common thing for them to do the satellite hearings? I've read several articles about doing it this way. Why don't they just trust our doctors' recommendations, and leave it at that-our doctors, who have treated us for many years usually, are the one's with the knowledge of our problems, not those sitting at Social Security. I'm so tired of all of this. I can't believe that with Parkinsons they are making you go through this. My Dad had the same disease, and I know how hard it was on him when he was doing something which made him nervous or anxious. I wish you the best, and hope you will get approved very quickly.
