I'm so sorry for your situation. I guess I am very lucky. We are basically living hand to mouth on my husband's salary. It is tough. We're robbing Peter to pay Paul most of the time. God is trying to teach me that we have it better than I think. It is a lesson that is hard to learn when it IS so tough month to month. I wish I had advice for you, something to tell you. I know there are others on this site that are or were in your position and could probably help out. Until then, you'll be in my thoughts.

There are alot of things that go into that question. Do you own your own home, or are you renting somewhere? is the place to start. If you own your own home you can sell it, and yes, I know that it would be difficult to selll your family's home. The other option is if you are renting then u could check into low income housing. You can get a check, foodstamps, and the medical card from the state. Low income housing is based on your income. Some people pay as little as 2 dollars a month. I know that these are not the most satisfying answers, but sometimes you have to make do with what you can get for a little while. I'm very sorry you are having to go through all this.

Have you applied for SSI? SSI is based on income and if you qualify, it will pay you while your SSDI is being approved. Also, have you applied for state welfare, food stamps and medicaid? Have you contacted PPARX for help with prescriptions? Have you applied for energy assistance? There are many programs out there. Call infoline (211 if you live in the USA) and tell them you want a list of all local, state and federal assistance programs you can apply for - there's many out there that most people have never heard of.

Lastly - you say you've used up your unemployment money to pay your medical expenses then say you dont think you can get unemployment because of your medical problems. I'm confused??? Did you already receive unemployment and it ran out? Did you apply for an extension? If you have not already gotten it, you can apply as long as you do not have anything from a doctor saying you are totally unable to work.

hi kathy, im so sorry what you going thru.. i dont know anything about uneplyment never got it before... i know how ya feel. i am aply for another medical leave absent at my job b/c i had to get some surgey, and i do have back problems too that pusing me not able to workl and my union rep told me if i get approve for medical leave, i should try going for disabity while im off to see it i can get it and then i wont have to try to go back..

so i scared too i have kids and where i live the welfare wont help ya in a home they just tell you to apply for hosuing or go to homless shelter... and i just left an from low income about 6 months ago b/c i was living in black mold conditiosn and leaking roofs. long story on that..

I remember it took me 7 years to get mine approved thanks to a lawyer not doping her job. I made ends meet on 450.00 a month and 250 in food stamps a month for me and 2 children.
Talk about hard times making it.
I was Blessed to be in Subsidized housing the place i put my name on the list for I got in a apartment within a few months.

I learned who cuts off when for instance Verizon will let you go without paying for 3 months that 3rd month you have to pay but you can stay in the hole 2 months for ever :0)

Cable it depends on what company you have Adelphia you could stay one month in the hole at all times same as Comcast although comcast allows a little over that month I do not know how much as i never tried going over by more than a month and finally got that caught up.

electric lets you got to 2 months and there is help to pay it
with rent social services and many churches will help

if you have mortgage or taxes on a house there are programs that help Seniors and the disabled with tax bills and mortgage bills

Mind you this was a few years ago i have had my disability for about 4 years now.

basically i chose one to not get paid or not pay all and when it got bad i went nuts getting help to pay them

If not for the subsidized rent I would have been homeless for sure.

i had Nothing No car no house no income Nothing.
I do know that there is a program at least in Maryland for people who are disabled waiting for disability they give you food stamps money and medical You need to sign up at Social Service sand I do not know if it is everywhere or what you can and can not own but worth a try

Also check with Dept of rehabilitation in your area
community Action Agency or any community services agencies
usually a google search for help for disabled or help for ____ service in such and such city county and state will get you some results on programs you can get help from
