Karaoke Night

Started singing karaoke at a local pub.  They have it 3 nights every week.  I go about two times a month, maybe once a week -- still deciding.


The people are nice.  Wait until the spirit moves you.  There is no pressure.  Cost is about $10, including drinks and tips.

Karaoke is cheap entertainment even if you can't sing. In any case, you will spend most of the time watching other people take turns. I watched a few evenings before I could do it. The last time I sang in public was 40 years ago, and my throat totally siezed up. I was afraid that would happen forever, but whatever it was, I seem to have overcome it.

It's more important to find material that works for you than to be a great vocalist. First principle is to follow the lyric; it helps if you memorize the words to the song, but the prompter is there if you fall. I love John Fogerty (Creedence Clearwater Revival) but I can't sing his style without choking. By happy coincidence, there is another regular at the pub who sounds just like him.

Jimmy Buffet is my current thing, but Cheeseburger In Paradise is just out of reach, for now. I'm trying to get my girlfriend to duet with me on All I Wanna Do (Is Have Some Fun) by Sheryl Crow. It would be perfect for her voice, but she doesn't really like the song very much. LOL!

We sang the Shery Crow song together and it was really good! We did duet on "Play that Funky Music" and did even better. I sang "She Cane In Through the Bathroom Window" in the style of Joe Cocker and got rave reviews. LOL!

We sang "Take It to the Limit" after last call, and people came up to dance and thank us, even though we sucked at it. It was in the wrong key for both of us.

    DS, I just have to say that if I did not love my friends here on DS I would be gone in a heart beat!  I am at my wits end of losing posts!  It seems like the Gateway thing seems to be a you problem.  How can we fix it?  I always make sure that I am online and signed in before I hit send.Welcoming any suggestions other than the ones that I recieved before.
