Sjogren's Syndrome Support Group
Sjogren's syndrome is an autoimmune disorder in which immune cells attack and destroy the exocrine glands that produce tears and saliva. It also associated with rheumatic disorders such as rheumatoid arthritis, and it is rheumatoid factor positive in 90 percent of cases.
My tongue is extremely sensitive but I have learned what foods make it worse (tomatoe products such as ketchup and pasta sauce, any vinegar based product such as salad dressing, pickles, etc. . I also avoid most acidic fruit such as grapefruit and pineapple.
My lips are another story.....they are pretty sore and raw feeling most of the time and I haven't found a product yet that soothes them. Any sgogies out there with ideas?
For my dry eyes--- I use Refresh PM which is an ointment at night to keep my eyes from being shut in the morning. I also use natural preservative free eye drops to help my eyes throughout the day.
For my dry nose , at night I use something I ordered from Amazon called Ponaris Nasal Emollient which does the job and I no longer have any nosebleeds. Lately my symptoms have been worse but I have also been eating a lot of take out and not sleeping too well so I am sure this is all contributing to it.
Please keep posting your questions and share what is working for you. As we are told there is no cure for this horrible autoimmune disease but we can make choices that lessen the severity of this as we go along.
