Sjogren's syndrome is an autoimmune disorder in which immune cells attack and destroy the exocrine glands that produce tears and saliva. It also associated with rheumatic disorders such as rheumatoid arthritis, and it is rheumatoid factor positive in 90 percent of cases.
I was diagnosed 2 1/2 years ago with SS. I have had dry, sore mouth mouth and tongue which I have learned to keep in moderate check by watching what I eat (no soda pop, limited amounts of sugar, avoiding many fruits, etc) I also have some fatigue issues which I cannot keep under control but can only rest until they pass. Last summer I had a severe dizzy spell which was diagnosed as vertigo. The vertigo lasted 8 wseeks. I missed going on vacation, walked with a cane, and pretty much did nothing that whole time. That was 4 months ago. I continue to have balance issues and some spells of mild dizziness. Anyone else have vertigo issues? I would like to know if it might be part of the SS and if I am going to have to learn to live with it. Thanks
I imagine there is more than one way of treating it, like Christine435 who took prednisone. I do not do well on oral steroids but my neurologist keeps me on a low dose of valium which helps a great deal and also helps my anxiety which I also believe comes from sjs.
They use valium alot for vertigo whether or not someone has sjs.
