Sjogren's Syndrome Support Group
Sjogren's syndrome is an autoimmune disorder in which immune cells attack and destroy the exocrine glands that produce tears and saliva. It also associated with rheumatic disorders such as rheumatoid arthritis, and it is rheumatoid factor positive in 90 percent of cases.
With me it's not throbbing pain but constant and it's strange that it will be in just one area. First one side of my neck, then one leg, then one arm.
I find the same things work for me- shower, swimming (if the water's not too cold or hot) and I feel a ton of relief from yoga.
Here is that banana again! Not only is it good for stimulating saliva production, it appears it's loaded with potassium which is great for muscles.
I've made bath salts with herbs before... if you do try an espon salt bath that's in the link, put the rosemary that is suggested here straight into the bath with the salts... can also add some mint or eucalyptus oil to make it smell even better. Eucalyptus oitnment is also noted to soothe muscles...
If they're really sore, Tiger Balm works excellent. They come in different strengths. I've used the both the white and red. The red is very hot for deep aches. The white is good for headaches. It's made of herbs also. Smells good too!
I used to make bath salts as well. One of the best essential oils I have ever used is Young Living essential oils. There are several sites online for them. The main one is very instructive on which oil helps what. I think the nice warm soak in the tub is helpful and the bath salts make you feel like you are pampering yourself.
I have also been told that water exercises, yoga etc are better for people with these conditions.
If anyone is inclined, Dr. Bernie Siegel has wonderful CD's that I have meditated to while in the bath. I see there are a few here interested in yoga and so maybe you might also be interested in his approach to medicine. I can't say that I have read any of his books as I have not had any illness up to this point, however it appears he has something good to offer. If interested, he does have this book available and it appears he has exceptional credentials:

With my issue with the medical field right now, I'm more inclined to be a participant in my own healing and doing whatever I can do to help myself...
Rozes - I've had restless legs for years and it's plain awful! Years ago quinine was the natural remedy for that and available over the counter, but it's been taken off the market due to side effects. I'm wondering about so many other drugs that ARE approved (YAZ for one,) which also have side effects with multiple lawsuits pending, but is still on the market?
Tossie: I hate these restless legs. The doctor that diagnosed me thought the low Vit D levels made them worse. I can tell the leg cramps get worse if I skip the Vit D tablets. I like to keep my legs stretched. I like yoga, but really prefer pilates. I do find that if I keep the muscles surrounding my joints toned, the stress and pain on the joint is eased. With anyone doing either, my suggestion is to make sure you monitor what you are stretching. Listen to your body. If you stretch and your muscles feel a mild strain, that is good. Go slow and you will eventually get to those poses. If it is your joints that hurt.....Stop! My chiropractor told me once that you did not want to take enough pain meds to completely do away with your pain. Pain was your body's way of telling you if you are doing too much. The pain is much easier to deal with than the constant fatigue and exercise does help that a lot too.
Then there are the muscle spasms...really can roll you up in a ball sometimes. I've been getting them a lot in my jaw muscles lately...strange feeling...like your jaw is locking up! I also suffer from very stiff/spastic (fine line) muscles...where I often walk like a robot...get so tired of the weird looks!! ALL of this stuff is NO FUN AT ALL!!! :(
